Question:
soreness in their butt as soon as 2 months post-op?

Ok, I just spent a while looking through the library and could not find the answer. My butt is soo sore! The main pain has been in the back, near my tailbone. I think this is because I slouch backward often because of the pain to the lower left of my bellybutton (lap RNY). But just recently the very bottom of my butt started hurting. I realized all of a sudden it is because I can feel the bones I am sitting on. Jeez, I didn't even think I had bones in MY butt! I've lost about 42lbs. so far, which is good, but I don't remember this sort of pain from when I weighed this much a few years ago. Anyone else experience this, or know why this is happening? Although I have lost a lot of weight in the butt, I don't feel like it is THAT much. Why is my butt so sore???    — Jennifer Y. (posted on August 5, 2002)

I too have the same problem. I am now seven months out and have lost 70 lbs., and as I sit here typing, my butt is killing me. I am finding my lower back is much more sore than usual. I guess that padding really helped. Don't know what to do about it, and pretty soon I'm going to make an appointment with my pcp and see what she can do to help me. Let me know if you find out some ways to alleviate that problem.

Dear Jennifer: I have wooden chairs for my dining room and about two months post-op, I noticed that if I sat down too hard, my hiney would hurt! Then I realized that I have bones there :-) So, I think it's safe to say that with the padding gone, we're starting to feel things we hadn't felt in who knows how long. I now have a job that is very, very physical and I notice when I sit down to do my paperwork (usually in a wooden booth at the grocery store) that my backbone feels like it's hitting the wood, that there is nothing between the bone and the bench. I've lost 99 pounds and I have weird things happen like bruising where my hipbones are (again, from the physical aspect of my job, breaking down loads of boxes, etc). I'm resting things on my hips like I used to do, only there is no layer of padding now. I'm trying to get used to it, but it ain't easy. The joke around our house is that I never knew I had bones in the places I'm finding 'em! I would definitely check it out with your doc just in case. But I can say that hearing what I've heard from my support group, etc. it's common now that the padding is gone. Congrats on your loss!!!

I have this too. It was especially bad between 6 - 10 mos post-op. Now it's better. I think it's just because I lost my biological ottoman I used to carry around on my backside. :-) As I lost weight, I developed aches and pains here and there all over. I think the physics of one's body changes, center of gravity, etc., and your skeleton just needs to get used to the new weight distribution. Now at 1 yr post-op, pains have subsided almost entirely.

I thought I was losing my mind until I read your question. I'm 11 wks. post today, down 90 lbs. and my butt hurts constantly. In my car, at home, anywhere I sit it seems to hurt. I guess our padding just up and left with the weight. It will get better with time.Take care

I'm 9 months post-op today and my butt has been hurting for about 5 months. It used to be the largest thing on me, now it's gotten a LOT smaller and I'm constantly having to adjust myself in my seats because it hurts to sit in the same position to long.

I posted this last week -- try "tailbone" in the library. I got some really good answers. You are not alone in your pain! Make sure you have your doctor document your pain. This will assist in insurance approval for plastic surgery at a later time.

That is when I started having tailbone pain. I had lost 40 lbs. within 2 months and my butt was really hurting. I was also having some joint/ligament pain in my hip/leg socket area. You 'suddenly' lost lots of padding there. Now 9 months post-op, my bottom doesn't hurt like it did then, although it has become more boney, I have just adjusted to it. I think that the dramatic loss of padding makes it more sensitive to pressure, but then gets used to it.
