Question:
Help! Trying to find an ultra-mega, heavy-duty, super-dooper support bra.

At -120 pounds, my breasts have the deflated balloon look going big time. They're still pretty heavy (D cup when all rolled up and tucked in) and I can't find a bra that keeps 'em even remotely pointed in the right direction. Anywhere above waist high would be an improvement. HELP! Any recommendations?    — mom2jtx3 (posted on August 20, 2002)

The Avenue makes a sports bra. So does Lane Bryant. Both are pretty well made.

I have a very good bra that I got from Colesce lingerie. It is sold by independent dealers through home sales, but they fit you for your size and give great support. Let me know if you would like more information and I will give you the name of a lady that I know sells it. [email protected]

The Playtex bras are nice and sturdy (and not ugly). They have a great selection at www.justmysize.com

Sears carries a line of bras called "Exquisite" - they are proportioned a bit larger for us "big gals" - I absolutely HATE underwires - but don't want saggy bags either. The Exquisite bras give plenty of COMFORTABLE support without underwires - the first time I tried one on I thought I'd died and gone to heaven - I refused to take it off - I put my old bra in the box and let the sales lady ring it up just like that. Good Luck!

I posted here too this spring on needing to find descent support bras. A DD cup then, now a D. I HATE underwires, they kill me so wouldn't buy any with wires. But for non wire bras I found Exquisite Form (3 section cup, bandeau style) and Lasting Comfort to work the best for me. They give you full support and shape. Of those two, I really love the Lasting Comfort. It has built in padding in the shoulders and a smoother shaping in the cup. With the exquisite form, it has a definate "pointy" shape and for me they just aren't as comfortable, plus I hated messing with those adjustable pads that slide on the straps. They never stay where I want. One more suggestion. When you decide on trying some different brands to see what works best for you, you might do so through eBay. Many bras are quite spendy but you can pick them up for cents on the dollar (brand new) thru eBay. If you want to try the Equisite Form or the Lasting Comfort, you can get those through the Lane Bryant Catalog for less than $20.

I just ordered bras from Decent Exposures. <http://www.decentexposures.com>. They are a little pricey and since they are custom made take about three weeks for delivery. They are the best fitting and most comfortable bras I ever had. Check out their web site. It is great to see full figure models.

OK, I know you said you hate underwires. I do too. But I have the same problem as you--formerly 48DD now 36D. 282 lbs to 140 lbs. I have yet to find a non-underwire bra that gives me the lift I need--I end up looking like I'm wearing tube socks. I have only two words to say--Victoria's Secret. Yep, they make an underwire full coverage bra called "Body by Victoria." It's COMPLETELY COMFORTABLE and I don't even know I'm wearing an underwire. One thing I did notice, when I was heavier, the underwires always cut into my arms and hurt, now that I'm smaller, my breasts don't push the underwires out to the sides like they used to and they're not uncomfortable anymore. Try them out in your new size--you might be surprised! (Not only that you get to say you shop at Victoria's Secret!!! You shoulda seen my face walking around the mall with my little pink bag!) :)

hi Linda! I am pre-op and wear a 46DD at this time. Since I have fibromyalgia, i haven't been able to wear and underwire bra for a number of years. I've had a lot of luck with Goddess softcup bras----- the kind with the light boning on the sides (under arms). YOu can probably order from any lane bryant or Roman's catalog. Good Luck! Adele

The best bra(s) I have ever seen were the ones that were made for a wedding party, by a seamstress. They were all individually measured. So they actually FIT the intended! They had ultimate side supports and actually pushed your boobs up and out where they belong. No side stuff hanging out. No back fat. These things were heavy duty. The girls who wore them looked (and I was told felt) totally comfortable- and they were all sizes. If you are at a loss, you may want to see if you could have a few bras made for you. The price of lingerie is outrageous, a seamstress may be cheaper than your think and hand made bras may last longer than store bought.
