Question:
Why Flinstone Vitamins

I keep reading from many posts that they take Flinstone Vitamins post-op. Is there a particular reason for Flinstone or is it just because they are chewable? The reason I am asking is that I have a wonderful adult chewable multi vitamin that I would like to keep taking post-op, but didn't know if there was something in the Flinstones that made it better than an adult chewable. Anyone have a clue??    — Kathy S. (posted on September 26, 2002)

Most people do take them because they are chewable. However, if you have a great tasting adult vitamin...I'd be interested to know what it is. I'm always willing to try new things. :)

The Flintstones Chewable Complete are sugar free, chewable and taste good! But there are other brands out there...at 8 months post-op I still enjoy my Flintstones and plan to continue using them for my multi.

If you check your labels, one Flintstone (or Bugs Bunny, if you prefer Warner Brothers characters!) has about the same ingredients as 1 Centrum chewables (for "adults"). Odd, huh?

be sure to check to see if your adult chewables have sugar in them or not. If they do, you may not be able to tolerate them after surgery.

The Flintstones are great for newer post-ops. Easy to go down and almost like a piece of candy. But just so you know, my surgeon's office (same ones who did Carnie Wilson's surgery) told me that you should only take Flintstones for the first 2 months. She told me that they do not have enough vitamins in them to sustain an adult for long-term health. I now take Vista Viatmins - formulated specifically for bariatric patients. They cost around $77 for an 8 week supply. A little on the expensive side but worth it to me to know I'm covered. :o)

Your adult chewable is probably just as good as the Flintstones. Compare the labels and go with what your preference. Just remember to take 2 a day instead of just one post-op, along with your extra calcium and iron (if needed).

I'm 9 months post op and still take my chewables. I take the Flintstone Complete. All my labs have been fine. As long as you are taking vitamins, that is the main thing. Adult chewables are probably better for you than children's. Compare labels and see.

My doctor told me I could take the chewable or just regular vitamins. I choose the regular multi-vitamin and 1200 mg calcium tablet per day. I spread them out throughout the day so they are easier to swallow.

The Flintstone's chewables are good for the newer post-ops. My surgeon has us take them for the first month post-op, then we move on to our vitamin "cocktail" if you will. I think most everyone takes the Flintstone's because they are sugar-free. One BIG hint...don't take one right before bed...eeeccchhh! You'll wake up with the WORST tinny taste in your mouth!! Good luck!!

I am the Flinstones Vitamin queen. I started taking them 2 years ago when my OBGYN told me they have the best Folic Acid in them and everything else you need. Of course, now that I had surgery, I also take iron, calcium, and B12 seperately, but I just find they are easy to pop in my mouth at anytime of the day and the whole family can take them. I think you could probably find other vitamins that would do the same though....maybe not as much folic though.
