Question:
Is there a chewable calcuim citrate?

On the advise of my surgeon and my nutritionist, I have been taking chewable calcium carbonate twice a day. I know from this site that we need calcium citrate not carbonate. Does anyone take a chewable citrate since they are so darn big? What is the name of them if there is one? Thanks. Theresa    — TAD B. (posted on April 30, 2003)

I take a capsule. I can swallow it, but others prefer to open & dump it into their drink. I also use a powdered calcium that I can add to my protein shake easily. Both are citrate

My husband (we had surgery together) was not taking his calcium. He said he choked on the big pills. I bought a can of powdered calcium citrate from Vitalady and now he mixes it in a little water and drinks it down. We tried it in his coffee, but it does not seem to disolve easilly and remained on the bottom of the cup. But with a 1/2 inch of water, it goes right down. Bt the way it is tasteless.

I read something interesting below. Someone mentioned that they take it in a capsule form?!?! One of the the big to-do's about calcium and what kind to take is that the calcium carbonate doesn't dissolve well because of our lack of digestive acids.....taking a capsule defeats the purpose of having the more easily absorbed citrate because the capsule won't dissolve as well without digestive juices either. I'd most definitely check with your dietician about capsules before wasting precious time taking capsules that very possibly are not doing anything for you since they aren't dissolving or being broken down in time to get absorbed in to the body. Good luck to you.

Hi All! I see quite a few of you put down the chewable calcium citrate wafers from Twin Labs. I have found the best deal on them. The website is www.vitacost.com. They are $7.25 for a bottle of 60 and shipping is $4.95 no matter how much you order. The other great thing is they have all kinds of low carb items (if you are watching your carbs). Take care.
