Question:
Round about costs of WLS ???

Just wanting to get an idea of what it would cost me to selfpay for my WLS. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I know it varies from surgeon to surgeon but would like an idea of what it may cost. Thanks!!! Bren    — Bren D. (posted on February 17, 2005)

Here are the figures that a very reputable clinic that I'm going to in Washington gave me. Of course every clinic will vary, but at least you can get the idea! Initial appointment: 250.00 Primary Surgeon: 9993.00 Assistant Surgeon: 2499.00 Hospital fees: 18000.00 Anesthesia fees: 1000.00 Inital testing: 4000.00 These numbers are for open gastric bypass. Hope they help!

From the time I started this journey untii I was post op my total costs where over 50,000 BUT I went thru the Mayo Clinic and they were expensive..IF I would have had to self pay I would have gone to Mexico.Heard many good reports of the patients that have gone there..My blood work, nutritionalist visit and visit with endo nurse is 1700 every 6 months..I now have new insurance so hopefully they will pay better than Aetna did.

Hi Bren, I had my surgery 2.5 yrs ago with Dr. Aniceto Baltasar in Alcoy, Spain - I live in Oregon, but went to Dr. Baltasar because I needed the best - I was a really sick puppy! For surgery, travel, staying in an apartment for a week on the Mediterranean, all x-rays, food, transportation, you name it - $15,800. I had an open BPD/DS. Since then I've lost 210 lbs and have a WONDERFUL quality of life. I love my surgery! If you'd like to learn more about Dr. Baltasar - see www.bodybybaltasar.com, or www.drbaltasar.com, or if I can answer any questions, please let me know, okay? Blessings, dina

Hi Gail, I am having surgery on Monday with Dr. Wongsa and I'm self pay. It is costing me $25,000, which I know is a little higher than some doctors in the Houston area, but I have total confidence in Dr. Wongsa and have seen his patience results. I need a firm hand and that comes so higher recommended. Dana
