Question:
I experience excruciating pain when I have a BM...there is lots of gas.

I take zantac and phenegren. I had open RNY on the 14th. Please, God in Heaven, tell me this pain will go away. Is there any thing I could do to help less the pain? Diet, chewing, eating too fast/slow, anything would help. I almost would rather not eat than have BMs this painful. I called the doc on call, and he said this is rather normal so soon after surgery and just suggested I go back on liquid diet (actually I suggested it in the conversation). I will go see my reg doc on Tuesday (but will call him tomorrow). But in the meantime, I was hoping to draw on everyone's experience with this. Everything else has been great...hardly no pain...nothing, just this gas and painful BMs. Thanks.    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on August 19, 2001)

I am having my surgery tomorrow. I have good follow-up advise from others and from my surgeon. First of all don't drink anything for 1/2hour before and after you eat your stomach is to small to hold liquids and food, make sure you are chewing food to a liquid before you swallow, don t use straws. My surgeon puts all his people on liquid diet first 3 weeks, semi soft 4th week. I will e-mail or fax you diet if you would like. [email protected]

first cut out all Dairy that causes gas at least in Lactose intolorant people sometimes and walk......walking helps with gas and helps with Bowl Movements also drink plenty of water or your BM's will not be runny enough dehydration could cause hard BM's so sip on water all day long try some warm tea and walk get up and move around when my stomach feels queasy i have found walking to help greatly
