Question:
Why am I having pain in my stomach after 7 months post op RNY?

I ate dinner last night and got the worst pain ever in my stomach. I could not catch my breath and thought I was going to have to go to the emergeny room. I had gastric bypass 7 months ago and have never felt pain like that. Should I be worried?    — JoannWard (posted on December 12, 2008)

Call the surgeons office or help line. it could be a stricture or ulcer. They are easy to treat but can be really bad if left untreated.

I'm not sure where exactly your pain was, but that sounds like your gall bladder. When mine started acting up at a year post op, I though I ruptured something. It radiated towards my back and made a hollow, burning sensation in my stomach area. I'd get it checked out for sure.

The pain you might be feeling is your stomach saying it is full. I had my done Jan 21, 02. I still have the problem but can ask your Dr. for some med's that will help with the pain.

You should call your surgeon if this happens again. It could be nothing but you need to make sure. Good luck.

The safest thing to do is to call your surgeon, don't wait.

Yes, you should be worried. You need to, at minimum, call your surgeon and perhaps also make an appointment to see your PCP about this. It's quite possible that this may have nothing to do with WLS and/or you may never experience it again. But anytime you have severe abdominal pain, especially with shortness of breath, you need to get checked out. I'm not saying that you are dying or even that there is something wrong with you... it could be something as simple as your stomach not liking what you ate, but since this is something new, you need to discuss it with your doctor. Good luck.

I agree. It sounds exactly like the pain my gallstones caused me. Either way, you should definitely have it checked out.
