Question:
What is this pain?

I am two years post op and for two years I have been getting this horrible pain! I can feel it comming on, it starts in my stomach area and radiates to my lower back on the right side. Sometimes it's after I eat, sometimes its in the middle of the night, theres no ryme or reason to it. I have to stop and take deep breaths till it goes away. Sometimes its only a minute, sometimes longer but today I had a really bad one and they seem to be getting more frequent. Does anyone know what this is? I have talked to my surgeon but he doesn't know. HELP!!    — sharwilson (posted on April 29, 2006)

Do you have your gall bladder? It sounds like a gall bladder attack to me. OR is an anxiety attack?

I had the same problem. They did Cat scans, and even an MRI. It was not my Gall Bladder which they thought. Than than scoped me. It turns out it was gastritis. A pill call zegerid took all the pain away. It is not a pain killer which I was on, This works wonders. You should go to a GI doctor and ask him about it. Good Luck!

My sister has this same type of pain and has been going through this for a few years. They at first found alot of scar tissue that had grown around her intestines. After the scar tissue was removed, she was pain free for about 3 weeks and then the pains came back and now are worse. The doctors don't know for sure what is the problem so they are doing alot of tests and can only see a small bowel obstruction. Good luck in your journey. My sister is 4 1/2 years out.

Could be a medication sounds like maybe a hiatal hernia, Let your doctor know what kind of pain you get. Usually if you have a hiatal hernia, you'll get that kind of pain, and because it usually comes after you eat or at night. Just a suggestion you might want to follow up on. Hope this helps a little

I had a pain like this...it was so bad that I would be doubled over and couldn't walk. The doctor told me it was an ovarian cyst. I had two X-rays and a CT scan...

I had same problem after 10 months out...........first they found gallstones, so I had my gallbladder removed, and after the pain from that surgery was gone, it returned, so they checked me out again and I have a pretty bad ulcer. Sounds similiar to the pains I was having! GOOD LUCK

Mine was my gallbladder but every ultrasound was negative for stones. My doc figured I had biliary dyskinesia - that the galbladder was going into a spasm constantly. He ordered a HIDA scan, which is like an x-ray but they give you a medication which causes your gallbladder to react... this test was POSITIVE. Since then, I had my gallbladder out and I've had no more problems. Best wishes to you.
