Question:
I had RNY done on Jan 27th 2002--I weiged 435 day of surgery--I was never

successful at this surgery, I never got below 260lbs..anyways, for the past 3 days, I have been in extreme pain. I cannot eat or drink anything, as soon as I do, and the fluid or the food hits my pouch, I feel like my pouch is being pulled down..what is wrong?? Dr. Wongsa in Houston is now retired, who do I go too? does anyone know what this could be? Thanks    — tylerswife (posted on July 14, 2007)

Well getting rid of 175 is not a complete failure either! Have you been exercising and following the recommended diet? Contact your regular physician and ask him about the pain and may be he can refer you to a new specialist. Good luck :)

hi there losing what you have lost is not being a failure at the surgery , go back to eating basics like you did right after surgery ,follow your drs protocol at the time you had the surgery . call your primary dr ,have them run tests . dont mess around with any kind of pain. rebecca

I have no real advice except get yourself to a doctor. Pain is a sign that you need to see someone. You should be having annual visits with a bariatric surgeon for the rest of your life anyway. You might even try to get in with the doctors from the TLC show Big Medicine - they practice in Houston at Methodist Hospital. Drs Davis - Garth and Robert I think it is.

Rebecca, Call Dr. Carlos Ferrari in Houston. He is seeing Dr. Wongsa's old patients. 713 864 5487. He is my surgeon and is outstanding! You may be having complications that can occur, even as far out as you are. It is critical that you get help immediately. If you have any additional questions, you can send me a personal message. Rebecca, it doesn't matter what we think this might be, you need a doctor's opinion quickly. Please call the hospital where you had surgery and find out who is dealing with your surgeons patients. Get a list of surgeons that do your surgery and visit one. It sounds like, to me, that you need some encouragement, some discipline and some mentoring. Your hospital should have a free support group, and perhaps some counseling might encourage you? You don't have to live with "never successful". You did lose down to 260 before, and you can lose again, even more. Rebecca, you are worth it, and I hope you fight for your health. Please see a doctor right away. Houston is a huge city, there are plenty of surgeons there to help you. Take care. Patricia P.

Before WLS I got seriously dehydrated it was horrible and friends said it clouded my thinking. Go to the ER IMMEDIATELY. The combo of little water and bad electrolytes can cause heart troubles. GO TO ER RIGHT NOW! Please lewt us know what happens. Bob Haller very concerned board moderator.

Many things can happen to the body post-RNY, and pain is the body's way of saying SOMETHING IS WRONG. If your physician is retired, please visit your local ER, preferably one associated with a Bariatric Center of Excellence (if there is one in your area). Good luck and good health!

Rebecca...I would agree with the other person...175 pounds is a success in itself...often we put our own goals on ourselves and create a lot of pressure. You should be proud of that accomplishment. As for your health problems, you definitely need to see a doctor as soon as possible. If you are still in the Houston area, then it sounds like your retired doctor has a replacement (according to one of the other responses)...and if you don't want to see him, there are others in the area...but it would probably be faster to get in to see the doctor who is seeing your old doctor's patients. Once you find out what the problem is, it may help you in continuing to lose weight. And remember where you have been and enjoy that part of your success! Good luck and God Bless!
