Question:
I need to losse 8-10 pounds

I know that when I go to the drs. this week he is going to tell me that he wants me to loose at least 8 lbs beofre my surgery on the 8th of february. Do any of you have any ideas of what I can do to jump start this. Without starving myself.    — teresasmiles (posted on January 23, 2008)

Exercise, drink 48 ounces of water daily, give up sodas and sweets, avoid breads and pasta, avoid snack foods ( candy, peanuts, pretzels, cookies, etc.) eat fruits and veggies--all things you'll have to do post op anyway.

I know if you cut out all salt, it can be done in one week. Breakfast have 4to 5 egg whites and 1 cup quaker oats(1cup dry measurement). Lunch have about 4 ounes chicken, turkey(not deli meat). Have a sweet potato or baked potato. No butter or salt(Mrs.Dash), and the same for dinner. All greens and veggies you want. Use balsamic vineger and lemon. This is what the trainers at my gym gave me to do.

THis is the start of a new life for you so just look at the diet he wants you to follow as a way to take 8 pounds of fat off your liver, and that makes the surgery much easier and much safer for you and him. Just do it for yourself!

Surely his office has a nutritionist. Your best bet would be to meet with her. It is do able. Best of Luck

They told me to stay away from all carbohydrates and not only would I lose weight, I would shrink my liver enough to have laproscopic procedure. This worked great for me. Also, about a week before surgery they had me on a full liquid diet to clean out my stomach. So at that time I could only drink protein drinks, broths, soups, anything liquid.

My surgeon said the same thing and then when I went in for the preop visit I don't think she even looked at my weight. This is NOT to say you shouldn't try to lose the weight but don't live in fear about it either. When I mentioned the liver being too big to operate around, she said, oh, that rarely happens.... So then I thought, I've been scared to death about nothing.

Here's what I did and what I 'd always done to lose weight fast. I tablespoon of unfrefined coconut oil in the morning and as many APPLES a day as you can eat. I lost ten pounds before my surgery that way in short order! I lost more weight quicker with the apples then I am now, one week post surgery, liquids only! Bob F.

I had to loose 6lbs in 2 weeks. I eliminated all sodas, starches. I ate oatmeal for breakfast, drunk plenty of water and ate salads with turkey or grilled chicken with fat free dressing. I walked for about 30 min a day. I lost 7lbs and had my surgery on Jan 9th.

My Doctor required 2 weeks of protien drinks twice a day and 1 low carb high protien meal a day. before surgery This helped like everyone said to shink the liver and help with the actual surgery. (I think it helps show that you are motivated and can follow the rules also) It was easy, but I was trying to be positive and started it early which got old by the time surgery came around. The vanilla slim fast or the vanilla advantage were very good and I was NOT hungry at all. And I am a big chocolate fan but the vanilla was better to me. But lets face it, this is how you are going to have to eat for the rest of your life you will have to follow the rules, remember this is only a tool. Good Luck! ~ Toni
