Question:
Stomach hurts - maybe gas?

I'm 3 and a half weeks post-op from lap rny and I am getting what I think is gas pain in the middle of my chest. At least I hope that's all it is. The problem is that it hurts badly, and I can't tell what is causing it. It hurts whether I eat or not - sometimes hrs after I eat. Gas-X helps for about 30 minutes, but it comes back again and hurts just as bad. No problem with getting water and food down other than the pain. Anyone else gone through this and might have a solution? Thanks! Carol    — C P. (posted on April 16, 2008)

Hi, it's a really good idea to check with your doctor when you are having pain. It's really difficult to diagnose on line. It Could be anything from gas to muscle pain to a cardiac event. Please call your doctor, sooner rather than later. Best of luck to you

At this point in the game you need to be in touch with your surgeon for any questions and fears. That is what he is there for. I had some issues recently, but I am over 2 years out and just seeing my surgeon made me feel better. PLEASE contact him and let us know how you're doing. God bless you and I hope you feel better soon. Kim

Your surgeon is the to ask. Gas pains from surgery should be over within a couple of days of surgery, maybe 5. You're not eating much at this point, so I kind of doubt it's gas from a variety of foods. Best to give your surgeon a call.

Hi, Carol. I cannot stress enough how many folks I have seen over the past 15 years WAIT until it is too late to seek medical advisement. From the answers you have received so far, I imagine you have called your MD already, and have a quick appointment to go in and check for band slippage, and other things, right? I hope this turns out well for you, and please be sure to let us know what becomes of this situation. I'll keep you in my prayers.

I had Lap Band yesterday and I was told that I might have gas and the best thing for me is walk, walk, walk. Good Luck
