Question:
What could this be almost 6 yrs out

Hi! I am almost 6 yrs out, and probably at about 4 yrs out I noticed that it I at any nuts, or peanut butter I would have severe pain in my stomach leading into my intestines, and the pain would be so bad that I could not stand, or eat anything sometimes for a day or two. So without having insurance any longer, I avoided these foods. On occasion I would accidentally eat something made with nuts and it would happen again. Well not for the past month it is happening with everything I eat. The only time i do not have pain is when I do not eat. It gets so bad that the pain radiates to my back and I can't sleep, eat, drink anything, and suffer in bed sleeping with a heating pad just to make it through the night. It almost feels like my upper intestines near my pouch are twisted because when I hunch over the pain is a little better. Any ideas what this could be.    — CareyNovak34 (posted on June 9, 2007)

Sounds to me like the same condition I had and they took my gallbladder out ~ no problem since! It took a medical team 12 days to figure out what it was because I didn't have "CLASSIC SYMTOMS" . . . But then again I'm pre-op for my WLS. By all means check it out with your Dr!!

Hi Carey! I agree with Maureen, that sounds an awful like you're trying to pass a gallstone. You need to run not walk to your doctor's office, or the nearest ER. There is no reason to have to hug a heating pad just to get a little sleep. I had laparoscopic surgery to remove my gall bladder, and it was simple, fast, and practically painless. Please, please, please!! go to the ER or your doctor ASAP, and get checked out. If you let this go, it can mess with your liver and pancreas, and you definitely don't want that! If you don't have insurance, ask if the hospital has some kind of assistance with the bills, most do, but you have to ask. -I'll keep you in my prayers! --Mary

I have had the same thing. I end up getting sick as a dog if I lay on my left side. I have had my gallbladder out. I have had the upper GI, lower GI, MRI, ultrasound...all that even the bad one..and nothing. I have almost come to the conclusion it is adhesions, but the only way to know for sure is for them to do surgery again. Email me at [email protected] if you like.

I am 5 years post op and I am having some of the same trouble. I had an emergency hysterectomy just last week so as you know any abdominal surgery has a tendency to mess with and/or stun your bowel. They did a ct scan because I was blowing up above my navel with everything or anything I ate even soup and looking like about 8 mths pregnant and the cramps below my belly button was ungodly. The ct scan showed that where they have reconnected my bowel from the gastric bypass there was a huge blockage of sorts a "plug" they called it. They put me back on clear liquids for 3 days and then more dense liquids for 2 days after that to get that plug out of there. I think it is working but the pain was unbelievable. good luck.

My gallbladder was taken out prior to my surgery, and most surgeons take out the GB with GBP. I had that kind of pain and will get it with broccoli and cabbage and sweet wines or alcoholic drinks. What I was determined to have was a type of Colitis. I take hyoscyaminefor it. Go to your doctor and have it checked out. Different food effect different people. Some people can't eat corn. Has to do with difficulty in digestion. Good Luck.

I am not sure if I am spelling this right, but it sounds like diberticulosis or diberticulitis... My mom has it and can not eat nuts or seeds. She had a colonoscopy and was diagnosed with it. Her's seems to be controlled by not eating those foods. It is (i believe) small pockets in the intestines that are inflamed. Those foods get stuck in the pockets and make the condition worse and more painful. Hope this helps! You can probably look it up on WebMD or a similar site.

I'm not a doctor, but it sounds to me like your gallbladder. I had my gallbladder out before my RNY but I remember that pain and I ignored it for a couple months, but don't ignore it, definitely go to a DR right away because with me a gallstone eventually got stuck at the opening to my pancreas and I became jaundice and almost died. Definitely check it out! Good luck!!
