Hi, This is up to your surgeon. My surgeon encourages protein source from foods mostly after about 4 months. I still however drink Grape Isopure daily(mixed with light grape juice).

Why are you afraid of protein shakes? Many of them are very good. I like to make my own using whey protein isolate and milk and the ready to drink, extreme smoothies...but after a few months you can use food to make up for the protein shakes. You will always have to count protein grams.

Hi, First off, good luck with your surgery tomorrow. I will say a prayer for you. Second, my doctor doesn't want me on protein drink past 2 months. He wants to make sure we learn how to eat with surgeries. You will be fine. All the drinks I have tried are great tasting....don't worry about it. It's not forever

Why are you scared to death? I make some awesome breakfast smoothies with protein powder, ice cubes, and milk. Blend it... they are great. You just have to find ones that you like. The PVL whey gourmet line is very good. I usually have one on most days by choice not because surgeon tells me to or not to. I like them because they are low calorie and staisfying. Good luck with your surgery!!!

You shouldn't be scared. Protein will keep you healthy and slow down the hair loss. I disagree with any surgeon that says otherwise. They really aren't in the know on this stuff. Go to www.bariactriceating.com. You should be taking in 80+ grams of protein a day to stay healthy and to loss weight and you can't do that by eating it. Especially not in the beginning. I am 4+months post op and there is still no way I would get enough in by food. I drink 8 protein shakes a day 4 warm and 4 cold. Matrix 5.0, Nectar Strawberry-Kiwi mixed with CL, Nectar Fuzzy Naval mixed with crystal light and Nectar Cappacino. I also use Any Whey which can be mixed with just about anything and doesn't have a taste. Please stay healthy during your journey, protein and vitamins is what we need during this journey and loss weight.

I have y et to find a protein shake that does not taste horrible, but you just have to drink them. My surgeon actually wants us to get our protein from real food after six months, but I cannot get in enough protein that way. I get sick if I eat too much. I am 2 years out.

Hi, I'm 9 months out and stop drinking my shaked after 2 months. I do eat alot of beans. I had my 8 month check-up and my protien levels were great. I never had hair loss either. Listen to what your body tell you and you'll do great.

geez I am over 5 years out and never used protein shakes.... My surgeon discouraged them because they dont make you feel full like say steak does. I prefer steak anyway. Congrats on your surgery, watching the weight drop was so much FUN!
