Question:
Terrible Terrible Stomach Pains!!!
I am 10mos post op RNY and i am down 123lb, here is my problem... I had the worst night of my life last night, twice in the past 3 weeks i have had these terrible stomach pains, right under my chest going horizontally left and right, i attempted to vomit 3 times (i did not force myself) but just dry heaved because there was nothing in my stomach. I wanted to go to the er but my mom had a point, they wouldnt do anything for me until monday or tuesday anyway due to the holiday weekend so i took some milk of magnesia and just stuck it out with a heating pad on my belly for 8 hours and this morning thank god the pain was gone. I dont think this is dumping as i have experienced that before when i have eaten too much, this was way different and it has happend twice to me. I thought the first time maybe it was food poisoning but for it to happen again about 2 weeks later seems odd... the only thing that i have in common with both of these experiences is that i was constipated... Could that have been the problem? Please help me any advice would be amazing i dont want this to happen again it is the most excruciating stomach pains i have ever felt in my life!! Ill be waiting for some advice! Thanks and god bless! Laura — LauraMarie (posted on September 6, 2009)

There could be many reasons for stomach pain. It could even be an ulcer.
A friend of mine who had RNY just got out of the hospital with a perforated
ulcer.
I'm planning a visit to my doctor very soon, myself. Sometimes, after
taking certain medicines I have intense stomach pains, too. Usually, if I
drink milk or eat some yogurt the pain will go away. It feels just like
the gall bladder attacks I had before having my gall bladder removed.
I researched what it might possibly be and from what I can tell I probably
have a duodenal ulcer. Anyway, I doubt that constipation would cause
stomach pain that intense. You need to get to your doc asap. Don't let
the fact that it is a holiday weekend keep you from going to the hospital
if you need to.

By all means, go to the hospital, if you are in that much pain! It could
be many things, and may have nothing to do with the RNY. Ask yourself this
question: If you had this happen to you before you had the surgery, would
you have gone to the hospital? Whatever your answer is, this is no
different.

Hi Laura,
Call your DR. he/she will advise you. If you can't reach the DR by all
means go to the ER. As the other posts have sd..it could be several
different things..but none of us are DRs. WE just have our past pain &
trbls. Most of our DRs preferr to hear from us when there is a problem.
Wish you the best in your weightloss & health.

I had stomach pains also and found out that my gall bladder ruptured! It

I don't know what your pain was...but I had a similiar experience with gas
pains...I couldn't move..it has happened several times and my only thing in
common everytime was that I was working bending over and then got the pains
after a few hours of work. I have never felt such pain and don't want to
ever again. I took gas pills and once I started getting rid of the gas, was
better. One time i felt better and went back to work and within 10 minutes
was int hepain again...stopped working that day!! lol I hope its
constipation on your end...you should call the dr office just to get an
opinion from them. Best of luck to you!and congrats on the loss so far!
hugs, Kim

could be an ulcer - I had terrible pains almost unexplainable got scoped
and they had to enlarge the opening from stomach to sm intest ulcer caused
scar tissue narrowing opening - I think even some vitamins gave me the pain
I now try to stick to smaller pills or cut them up try to stick with soft
things til you see the dr.

Did you have your gallbladder removed when you had surgery? The pain sound
similar to pain I had before mine was removed.
Either way, you should ask your doc. If the pain is bad enough, an ER
visit could help.

Constapation can cause extreme stomach pain. You want to have it checked
out if you can't find releif from the pain. * hours is way too long to stik
it out.
