Question:
Sharp Pain near Ribs, what can it be?

I am almost 2 weeks post op from Lap RNY with gallbladder removed. I am on a soft food diet. Two days ago, I went for a walk with my son. Half way home, I started getting a sharp pain right at the inner edge of my right rib cage (but its not the ribs hurting). It felt better with rest. Today, I stood up and it was back but sharper. Now, everytime I stand up it hurts horribly. When I lie down, it seldom hurts. I had loose stools on days 6 and 7 but haven't had a BM since. Could that be it up so high in my ribs? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Christine    — Christine C. (posted on February 17, 2002)

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I called my dr who sent me to the hospital to have testing done. Seems it was just trapped air from him "moving stuff around" during surgery. It passed after several days on its own. It hurt but it was a relief knowing it wasn't anything to worry about.

I had the exact same thing happen as well. I stretched when I woke up one morning, and it happened. It feels exactly like the bubbles I had in my abdomen in the hospital. Leave it to me to find the one that was staying hidden, nice and quiet.

With LAP (I was open) I hear there is a lot of internal gas pain that you could possibly expirience. I would, however, let your surgeon make that decision. Please give him a call. -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -115
