Question:
What Brand of Calcium Citrate do you Use? Seeking one that is easy to take.

I just bought calcium citrate chewables by Twin Labs and each tablet is the size of a stack of 5 quarters, plus I need to eat 4 a day to get in my 1000mg, that's 20 quarters. The taste isn't horrible but it's not good either. What is another option, besides taking a pill which I'm worried to take so soon. (only 6 weeks out)    — Kelly* P. (posted on March 5, 2003)

I ordered mine from www.vitalady.com. They are capsules that can be opened. Also are 750mg each, so i take two a day.

Hey Kelly! I also ordered mine from www.vitalady.com and mine are 500mg per capsule so I take 3 per day. The capsules dissolve very quickly so I don't even break mine apart! Happy Hunting and Good Luck!

Just make sure whichever one you use that you are supplementing Vit D and Magnesium, either combined with the Citrate or in a seperate supplement. You have to have both Vit D and Magnesium to absorb the Calcium. p.s. I use Vitalady's Calcium Citrate plus D & Magnesium supplement. Easy to swallow capsule, 500 mg. per capsule.

I use a liquid calcium citrate by Tropical Oasis. I get it at a local vitamin store, but I'm sure it can be ordered online too. I like the taste, but that's just me. It's 1200mg for 1 tablespoon.

I use Citracal which is calcium citrate plus vitamin D. I get them at my local pharmacy, Longs Drugs.

Try Citracal Liquitabs. They're like Alka Seltzer...you drop them in water and drink up fast. Pills were very hard for me to swallow for the first 4 or 5 months. Don't skip your supplements! You can find the liquitabs online at medichest.com. They've been on national backorder since last summer, but you should be able to find them. Good luck! (B. Bustamante, lap RNY 7/17 -109.5lbs)

This was a real problem for me, too. I absolutely can NOT swallow pills. I searched and searched and finally found a chewable that I really like. It's a combination of citrate and bicarbonate and it has magnesium. It's orange cream flavored. I got it at Whole Foods, but I can't remember the name. It's the only one they carry that has chewable citrate. You only have to take 2 a day. When I am home I will look at the name and post it. I know it has bicarbonate, too, but my surgeon says it's just fine.

My surgeon told us we could start taking normal pills at four weeks, and truthfully, I've never had a problem with them. I do prefer gelatin capsules, both because they slide down easily and I assume they may dissolve more readily. At the moment I'm taking Vitamin Shoppe (a chain, also has a web site if there aren't any local) calcium citrate capsules with vit. D and magnesium. I try to take six a day.

I use vita lady's calcium supplement also. It has everything you need and is real easy to swallow.

I, too, jump on Vitalady's bandwagon. The brand I get are called Natures Science, they come 240 capsules to a bottle, are 500 mg each with VitD and magnesium. Be careful of the liquid citrates. The one by Tropical Oasis, while it says it has 1200 mg of citrate, it actually is only 200 of elemental citrate (the part that is absorbed). I called the company to find that out...

Hi Kelly, The best Calcium I have found is "Isotonix" brand Calcium Plus. It comes in powder form that you mix with water. It tastes great(citrus flavor), and best of all you can expect extremely high absorption within 5 minutes. Love it!!

I use Active Cal Chewable Carmels from GNC. I chew one in the morning and one at night with my vitamins, this gives me my 1000mg daily. Hope this helps and Good Luck!

Isotonix, by far is the easiest to take, and the most absorbable form on the market right now. Renee

I've got to say, too, that the best calcium citrate (with Vit D and magnesium) gelcap I've found is the one offered by Vitalady at www.vitalady.com. It's very easy to swallow. I take 4 a day, spacing them out between the hours of 2 and 8 pm (your body supposedly absorbs it better later in the day). Order a couple big bottles at a time and you're set for a while. I think the price is good, too.
