Question:
SPECIFICALLY WHAT IS EVERYONE TAKING FOR HAIR LOSS?

I am a 27 yr old newlywed. I am 3 1/2 mos post op and have lost 75 lbs. I feel great! Now I am having 1 problem! Hair loss! I was looking through the other questions that people have posted in ref to hair loss but found nothing specific. Can everyone tell me the NAME of what they take, how many MIGS. and how many times a day do you take it? Thanks! *_*    — Dayanara A. (posted on June 26, 2003)

I took Biotin faithfully before and after wls, no help at all. The only thing that made the loss less with each wash was Nioxin shampoo and conditioners.

I am 6 weeks post op and I have not experienced hair loss, but my Dr. suggest Nioxin shampoo and Biotin once a day. At four weeks I began using both just for prevention. Nioxin should be available through your local hair salon. If they don't have it in stock they should be able to order it for you.

Hair loss is a controversial question as far as what helps. Some doctors say it is from lack of protein. Some say that biotin helps. I have taken Real Meals for the 60 grams of protein and the biotin since I was three weeks post op. I am now thirteen months post op. I never experienced any hair loss. Can I say that it was definitely the high amounts of protein? No. But wither I am very lucky or it worked for me.

I tried biotin, did not help, I added Zinc at the suggestion of my pharmacist, and guess what, it helped. Try to add both and see if it helps. Make sure you are getting in allof your protien and other vitamins also.

My doc told me that nixion is good, but when you stopped using it, the hair would fall right back out. The best thing I have found is a good multi-vitamin, washing and conditioning my hair every day, and making sure I am getting Vitamin K in my multi! Of course, lots of protein, too! Your hair will come back! Mine barely covered my head, and now it has grown back to 80% of what is used to be before I got sick and ended up having this surgery! Take vities, and keep the protein intake high!

I took a Hair and Nails vitamin from GNC that contained biotin, as well as getting in plenty of protein from protein drinks, and I took some zinc as well. Did it work? I don't really know. I did lose some hair, and was starting to worry, but it was nothing that anyone else would ever have noticed and I started with a thick head of hair to begin with. It was kind of alarming to end up with a hand of hair whenever I washed my hair but it really didn't amount to all that much in the end. I started noticing it midway to the end of my third month and it seemed to slow down in my sixth month. I don't know if I would have lost more if I hadn't taken the vitamins. Maybe the vitamins did nothing at all, but it did give me some peace of mind that at least I was doing something to control it!

hello, i havent had the surgery yet, but i do know about hair loss...for the past 2 years ive been losing hair at a rapid speed. dont know why. but everytime i took a shower, i would have a handful of hair or evrytime i would brush my hair, thier would be about a handful in my brush. ive always had long full hair and it got pretty scary. it got to the point where i would have nightmares everynight about losing my hair. so i talked to a beutician about it and she suggested that i take a biotin capsule everyday and drink soymilk 4 ounces daily. im not a real fan of milk so i bought some soy creamer for my coffee and in about 2 weeks i noticed that i didnt have as much hair in my brush or in my hand when i showered. i think the soy and biotin help stop it from falling out but not sure if it helped it GROW,so on top of taking those things , i also started using nioxin everyday and my hair started growing back. it was kinda strange because ive never had this problem before and the beutician said she has been seeing 19 year girls comming in and complaining of hair loss too....maybe its something in the water, but good luck to you.

5mg Biotin in addition to Biotin shampoo and conditioner. I know how you feel - panicked. I lost hair for about 3 months, and I'm now 7.5 months out and it completely stopped - practically overnight.
