Question:
2yrs postop, food got stuck, threw up, now in excrutiating pain

Hi, I'm 2 yrs post op lap rny. I ate a burrito last night and it got stuck, so i brought it back up. I was a little achey afterwards but not in pain. This morning however, I'm in so much pain, I feel like I just had surgery.
I can't stand and walk upright, im hunched over.
I can drink fluids ok, haven't tried to eat yet this morning. So I don't think I still have an obstruction.
Pain is in the umbilical region, going to the left side. If I move quickly, the pain shoots up my left side next to my left breast/arm, then mild pain down the left side of my arm. It is a sharp burning knife sensation.
I have had problems in the past after throwing up, feeling nausious, having pain in that same area (though not going up my side and down my arm). And the pain has never been this painful. I was diagnosed at those times with IBS, unable to eat or drink and have delayed bowel movements.
This time however, i am NOT nausious, and am able to drink.
Should I go into the ER to see if perhaps I created a hernia throwing up? It does feel like the pain is musculer and not related to my intestines, but I'm just not sure. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before? Thank you, annie — Annie R. I would call your surgeon, or go to the ER. Better safe than sorry. Let usa know what it was.

You should definately call your surgeon. Doesn't sound like something you should take to lightly.

I'd go to the ER right now! Then have THEM get in contact with your surgeon... especially since you mentioned the "arm" pain. I sure don't like the sound of that one. Please let us know later.

Original poster here:
not long after I posted the question, the pain suddenly went away and never returned. I have no idea where it was from or why it went away. I will go to the doc tomorrow to see what happened. Annie.
