Question:
does prior cesearean birth surgeries make me ineligable

I have had 2 cesearean births in 1983 & 1986. Does this make me ineligable for the surgery    — Tammy H. (posted on April 25, 2002)

Hi, I have had two c-sections, one vertical incision and one horizontal... and I will be having an open RNY soon (date not determined yet)...so yes, you will be able to have surgery. If you are interested in LAP RNY, it depends on the amount of scar tissue and your BMI. Hope this helps!!! Good luck!

It would definately not make you ineligable for an open-surgery. However some surgeons won't do it laproscopic after you have had any major abdominal surgery. You will have to see what your surgeon does as there are advantages and disadvantages to both open & lap. But if your only option is open, you would still be able to get the surgery.

I am a pre op hoping for surgery in early JUNE. I have had 2 c sections one in 88 and one in 91 both bikini cut and I am having a lap rny. I went into my first consuly asking for an open rny because I thought my BMI was too high for a lap but my doctor insisted on the lap because that is what he is most comfortable with and he specializes in it. So it is possiable to have a lap rny with the right doctor

I had a c-section in '93 and lap RNY Nov '01. Everything went smooth and I was one of his 'easy ones'. I guess it depends on the doctor and how much scar tissue build up you have. It is possible.

I had c-sections in 93, 95, and 97. Open RNY 01 -105...NO PROBLEMS...Infact I think have those under my belt helped tremendously...only in hospital for 2.5 days...I was outta there:) Best of luck to you!!

I had a completely successful lap RNY after having had two C-sections and an abdominal hysterectomy (vertical incisions), as well as a "traditional" gall bladder surgery. Good luck!

I had four C-Sections ('85,'87,'89,'91), and two other abdominal surgeries after that ('93,'97), through the same C-Section scar (female surgeries and hernia repairs) - I had successful OpenVBG on 06/11/01 - no problems at all (and now, 10 months later, I've lost 141 lbs!!!)

No, not at all. In fact having had previous abdominal surgery will help you to be prepared for the level of pain to expect. It seemed easy this time because I didn't have a baby to take care of as well. My joke is that with my horizonatal c-section scar and my vertical RNY scar,I'm now pre-marked for autopsy!
