I actually work at a casino in Mississippi but my company is based out of Las Vegas. The buffet will not give you a discount. The casinos have strict policies about pricing and everyone pays the same. The buffets can be a bit pricey too.(From $12 - $20 dollars) I would stick to the other restaraunts that are housed within the casino. That way you can get as much or as little as you like. Have a blast!

It seems to me that asking for a discount in a buffet isn't reasonable. How can the manager/staff know how much or what you eat? They can't and they certainly can't afford to have someone follow you to see. Anyone could make up a card and present it trying to get a discount. Now in a regular restaurant, you would probably be able to order from the children's menu if you asked politely. Or, you can order what you want and then request a 'doggy bag' as soon as you get your food. Then you can put what you won't eat into it and take it home. I also know many couples who split an entree just because restaurant portions are so big and neither person can eat a whole meal. Or, you might be able to order just an appetizer, if there is one that would work for you.

Just a thought in regards to the "anonymous" post to this question indicating buffet's are for "pigging out". I am 7 weeks post op and while I don't get my money's worth in quantity at a buffet I do get to sample as many items as I have an interest in, just a bite if I desire and I have much more choices of food that I can taste to see how well they will "go down". Not everyone goes to a buffet to "pig out". That statement was a bit rude, in my opinion.

honey i live here, i havent gone to the buffets since my surgery BUT this is what u should do if they wont give u a discount. just have ur family pay for themselves and go sit at a table, give it a few and then you go join in just walk right in there and sit with them and do ur nibbling...hehe i have a big family and when we all go out to eat some of them just join in later and no one ever even notices it or says anything....

I don't know about everyone else but I really enjoy eating buffet. I use my restaurant card and eat for very cheap. I love being able to eat spoonfuls of different things. I love variety. It has never been a problem for me.

I can offer no help with the "Dr. card" aspect of the question, but you MUST eat at the Mandalay Bay buffet -- I find most buffets creepy (sneeze guards just don't do it for me) but all of the food at the Mandalay Buffet tasted really great and it all seemed "clean", unlike some buffets were most foods are covered in so much sauce you can't really tell what it is, or how old it is for that matter. Also, eat at "off" times in the buffets so you can avoid the long lines. Have a wonderful holiday!!!!

I was there in sept. I did not use my rest. card. but I was selective in what I ate. At the Rio I ate lobster tails with butter took small bites and chewed well , the dessert selections at the Rio and Freemont as well as most places have a huge selection of pies , cakes and cookies that are sugarless. Breakfast and lunch were so cheep that the cost of the buffet made no difference. Enjoy!

Bekka, I'm not sure if you're going alone or with a friend/spouse but I was there about 3-4 months post op with my parents. My mother is small like me and we split breakfast every morning at the restaurant at the Sherwood Cafe in the Excalibur. They had no problem with this. Since it came with 2 eggs, 2 pieces of sausage, 2 slices of toast etc...it was perfect to split and very economical. My best recommendation for eating out is the Grand Lux cafe at the Venetian. Their food is fabulous and very well priced. They never minded my mother and I splitting a meal or just ordering an appetizer, which are quite large. Their prices are also great. For the most part I wouldn't recommend buffets, they just aren't that great, in my humble opinion. The exception, and there are a few, would be the seafood buffet at the Rio. Its amazing but I'm not sure I'd spend the $25-30 considering how little I can now eat. Have a great time in Las Vegas, its one of my favourite places to visit. You can get in lots of walking, especially at night. There is also a great outlet mall nearby worth visiting!

WHAT ABOUT COMPS!!! I guess it depends on how much you plan to gamble. Buffet vouchers is one of the cheapest ways to comp people. So make sure you use the cards they give you at the courtesy desks.

Some cheap buffets are all the Station Casinos and The Orleans. Both have great variety of food and for $5.00 bucks it's worth it. Good Luck have a great time!! I love Vegas and look forward to going there when I am a LOSER.

Howdy! I just got back from Vegas. We ate at the buffet in Harrah's a couple times. They are kind of stingy about giving discounts because alot of people would use someone's meal card (that had WLS) for discounts so they stopped accepting them. They let me have a discount once but it was still 10 bucks for dinner! Theres not much you can eat on the buffet really. I ate turkey, salad, cranberry sauce. They have wonderful sugar free desserts! I hate the sugar free chocolate cake with sugar free vanilla ice cream on top. Yum!!
