Question:
anyone every heard of bile salt suppliments to help prevent gallbladder problems?

I read an artical in a family circle magazine recently that talked about a mother and daughter that had this surgery. It mensioned taking bile salt suppliments for the first 6 months after surgery to help prevent the gallbladder from going bad from the drastic weight loss. Has anyone heard of this or tried it. If so where do you get such suppliments?    — Lori M. (posted on September 20, 2002)

My surgeon suggested this too. He says it will cut your chances of getting gallstones after surgery down to 5%. I'm not taking any chances, though, and having my gallbladder removed anyway.

My surgeon has her patients take Actigall for 6 months following the surgery. It helps prevent the formation of gall stones after rapid weight loss. I'm not sure if it "bile salts" or not.
