Question:
Have had three episodes where I wake up in the middle of the night in pain.

It starts out as a lump just under my breast bone then it tightens up and gets severe I end up getting sick to try to relive the pain and it works for a little while then it gets worse. It usually ends up lasting for 1-2 hours then it subsides. I have normal bowl movements and not much gas. I have asked my Dr. about it and he said it is esophageal spasms and to take two zantac before bed. I was on prilosic and went off after surgery because I figured I did not have heartburn and acid reflux any more. Has anyone else been told they have this?? I have not been able to find out much about it to figure out exactly what it is doing. All I know is it really hurts!!! BTW I am 6.5 weeks post-op and had a lap surgery.    — Marcy D. Marcy, I'm sorry to hear you are in pain. I am glad you have contacted you doctor. I noticed you had RNY. My surgeon suggests staying on heartburn medications. In fact if one does not take them pre-op, he recommends taking pepcid 20mg twice a day for the first two months. The reason for this is because ulcers can develop where the small intestine is attached to the new pouch. Which would cause bleeding or narrowing of the stoma. Although this is not common. It is a possiblity. Please check with your doctor again for his wishes.

My thought is about your gall bladdar. That is the kind of pain I had when I had stones; although at the time I was 6 months pregnant. Did they remove it when they did your surgery? Just a thought. GL Open RNY 8/8/02 324/195

I did not have my galblatter out with the surgery but they did a sonogram done shortly before surgery and it was clear I think that is why he thinks it is something else. I just have not found anyone else that has mentioned this so thought I would ask... Thanks for everyones comments!!
