Anyone have an opinion on DR. ROBERT MAREMA IN FT. LAUDERDALE, FL?
I AM SEARCHING FOR A GOOD SURGEON AND HAVE HEARD GOOD THINGS ABOUT HIM. I WOUILD LIKE TO HEAR FROM HIS PATIENTS. DO YOU RECOMMEND HIM? THANK YOU — Marybeth O. (posted on June 25, 2001)

Hi Marybeth, I am still preop with Dr M, but he has an excellent reputation
for performing WLS. I should tell you though that because he is very
popular, you may have a long wait for surgery. I have to wait 3 weeks (1
week has ended) for a date and I was told yesterday by the surgical
coordinator that it may be September before I have surgery. He has an
excellent aftercare program and at his info sessions he's very frank about
this operation, detailing all aspects good and bad, so you can make an
informed decision whether or not wls is for you. He has another doctor in
his office who he's trained and is now accepting patients. His name is
Michael A Perez. Some of Dr M's patients have decided to use him instead of
waiting so long for surgery. I can have my surgery as early as July 10 if I
chose to go with him, so I am actually considering that. The decision is
yours, just research carefully so that you can make a wise decision. If you

Dr.Meremas office has decided not to work with Blue Cross Blue shield of
Florida. I found this out after I had taken all the steps that they ask you
to do, pulmanologist, cardiologist, physc eval, ultra sound, blood work,
etc etc so if you have BCBS don't waste your time. They offerd absolutly no
help whatsoever and basically told me I was on my own and that my Ins
company would send me a letter(yea right) so right now I'm starting all
over. VERY DISAPOINTING!

I had surgery by Dr. Marema on May 20th. I can't say enough about this
wonderful man. His office staff needs a little work but he is one of the
best if not the best surgeon in Florida. I would highly recommend him.

I did not have surgery with Dr. Merema, but I had Dr. Perez, one of his
assistants, and he was very good. I am healing just fine and today is my
one month anniversary. I lost 61lbs and feel great. There is a support
group meeting tomorrow night at Holy Cross hospital in Fort Lauderdale
where you can ask people who had him as their surgeon how he did for them
and they can give you the best Info. possible. Hope this helps.
