Question:
What is a good brand of chewable Calcium Citrate?
I understand that Calcium Citrate is more absorbable than Calcium Carbonate. I can't find it in a chewable form listed on the diet sheet provided by my dr. — Teri D. (posted on May 1, 2001)

My doctor suggested taking Tropical Tums. They are chewable and not that
bad tasting. Good Luck! Emily

I looked everywhere and could not find a chewable. If you find one, please
let me know. I did find a liquid at Vitamin World that can be added to
beverages. I don't have the bottle with me because I am at work but if
your interested let me know and I'll e-mail you the name.

I found a wonderful chewable calcium citrate by Twin Lab. A dose is chewing
4 of the very tastey wafers every day. Each dose is 1000mg calcium citrate,
400iu of vitamin D and 500mg of magnesium and 3 g of sugar. They really are
good. THey taste almost like a sweetart but not quite as sour. Twin Lab has
a web site where you can type in your zip code and they will tell you what
stores in your area carry Twin Lab products.( I think it's www.twinlab.com)
Then call those stores listed and see if they carry this specific product.
GNC does not carry it although they do carry some twin lab products. I
found mine at the local health and nutrition store. A bottle with 60 wafers
(15 days) costs $14.95 or about $30.00/month. Worth every penny!!

I will save Michelle Curan a little bit of trouble by duplicating what she
has told us many times.....For the person who recommends Tropical Tums -
this is calcium carbonate. We do not absorb calcium carbonate because we
do not produce stomach acid with the roux en y surgery. Calcium carbonate
is not absorbed by us. We have to have calcium citrate. I have been
looking for a chewable form of calcium citrate too.

I've been wanting a chewable on too for some time...but for now I just cut
my huge horse of a pill and get it down that way......post if you ever find
a good one! For information sake the calcium in tums is a gimick only and
IT WON'T HELP EVEN THE NON-WLS community. The tums nutralizes the ACID in
the stomach that is NECCESSARY to absorb calcium...kinda
a waste of calcium ain't it. I think more doctors need to be
educated instead of recommending tums to everyone as OK!
it's NOT! Just because a doctor "has been doing this for 15 years,
he should know" means diddly.

I use the chewable "Cal-Snack" from Country Life. (Ordered thru
vitaminshoppe.com.)
2 wafers equal 1,000 mg calcium (citrate/carbonate blend), 50iu vitamin d
& 500mg magnesium. It's a fairly tasty vanilla/orange flavor.
