Question:
What about BELLY BUTTONS??

My doctor does the tummy tuck with hernia repair but says I wont have abelly button afterwards. Is this the case for everyone? Has anyone had this done and been bothered by the idea of not having a belly button???    — Carla H. (posted on September 15, 2002)

I've heard of plastic surgeons who "make" new belly buttons for their patients if they want one. Maybe you should ask your doc about it???

My new belly button wasn't even an issue, my doctor always gives his tummy tuck patients a new belly button. It even looks natural! I'd ask your doctor about this. The idea of this is to have a reconstruction, isn't it? Reconstruction as in giving us a normal function & appearance. EVERYONE has a belly button, why would he deviate from that basic??

I have a new belly button too!! My doctor said my old one was too big for my new little belly so he gave me a new one too. You should ask about this if you have a problem with it.

My plastic surgeon offered me a new belly button as an "option" with my TT. He said that some people just don't care one way or the other, so he always asks. It adds just a few more minutes to the surgery, but no extra expense :-) I decided that I had lived with one for so many years, I was pretty attached to the idea of finishing out my life with one. He made me a much nicer bellybutton than the original, and now my daughters want me to get a bellybutton ring :-) With most plastic surgeons, it's the patients choice. Best wishes!

I got a new belly button when I had my tummy tuck. It looks great. Might even get a ring in it!

Hi, I am going in for my hernia repair and tt, on sept. 30, my doctor isnt going to do the belly button either, he says it just causes infections and gets nasty. I haven't seen mine in years, so not having one won't bother me one way or the other. Good luck with your surgery.

Hi again. I saw what Peggy's doc told her and wanted to just say that I didn't have one ounce of trouble with my new belly button. I treated it just as I did the rest of my incision site & drain openings - with antibacterial soap in the shower and neosporin & sterile gauze bandages. No problem.
