Question:
Too little weight loss at almost 8 weeks post op?

This week I will be 8 weeks post op and I have only lost 28.1 pounds, with the first 14 gone in the first week following surgery. My scale is moving very slowly even though I exercise at least 2 times a week, but on average I'm on my bike 3 to 4 times a week, and strictly following my surgeon's diet plan. I also have degenerative joint disease which makes exercising difficult, but I'm doing it anyway. I'm getting at least 60-70 grams of protein, and at least 60 ounces of water. I take my multivitamin, calcium, and 2 concentrated fruits and veggie chewables a day. Is there anything else I can do to help my weight loss, or am I losing at a "normal" pace? Thanks for any help anyone can give me, even it is words of encouragement. I'm feeling somewhat a failure at this weightloss thing again.    — Mysstical A. (posted on November 28, 2004)

Instead of saying "I've only lost 28 lbs in 8 weeks".. how about. "I'VE LOST 28Lbs IN ONLY 8 WEEKS!!!!!." Turn it into a possitive. You are doing great. When was the last time you lost 28 lbs?? and in only 8 weeks? Keep doing what you are doing and the weight will keep coming off, and most importantly it will stay off. Congrats on the progress so far. HUGS!!!

Would that be protein in food or protein in supplement? Sounds a little light in vitamins, but what exactly is the food plan you're following? Just for the record, I was one of the slowest losers in my local support group, but I still got where I was going. Just took me a lil longer

Wow. I am having the exact same experience. I had my surgery 10/13 and I have lost a total of 25lbs, having problems w/ exercising because of a bad knee, etc., etc. I went to see my nutritionist today because I am also retaining water. From 10/18 to today I have lost 12.6lbs. Well she did a body composition test on me and it turns out that I gained 5 lbs in water but lost 15 lbs of body fat and lost 2lbs of muscle mass. I'm probably retaining water because of the protein (i.e. fish, bean, cheese all have sodium in them and I wasn't consuming this much sodium preop days.) I've also been told to try weight bearing exercises and low resistant bike riding to avoid muscle mass loss. The bottom lime is that things are moving in the right direction and I just have to be patient with the process. I understand your disappointment but in reality we're doing ok. Good luck to you!!!!
