Question:
I had an open R-N-Y on 6-1-01 does any-one besides me have trouble being in the heat

after just a couple hours in the mid west heat I find my self sick and have the dry heaves, I was wondering if any-one else is going through the same thing. I caan't seem to get enough water in my body fast enough to keep it cool like before. Is this somthing that will last for-ever.    — Kimberly B. (posted on August 4, 2001)

You know I used to just love the hot weather befor I had my surgery, but now I get really sick after a short period of time in it.

My surgery date was 3/30/01 and I find that when I'm out in the heat more than a couple hours that I get light headed and dizzy. Really wierd!!

I just had my open RNY on July 20th and I cannot be in the heat for too long or I get dizzy and feel weak and sick. I experienced my first episode the day I was released from the hospital and it has happened to me every time I have left the house since. I have no idea why it happens, but I can't wait until summer is over.

It's called dehydration, or heat exhaustion. You MUST always drink LOTS of water before going out in the heat - take it from a TEXAN - today over 100 degrees here. YUK!

It hasn't been long since your surgery, so the drinking thing should get better. I went to Disney World 11 weeks post-op and that was a huge mistake. I too was very dizzy and would go through spells of dry heaving. It took me about a week to get over that and I have tried to stay out of the heat for long periods of time since then. I don't know whether this is a life long thing to deal with, but I hope not. Just try and drink as much as you can, which will get easier about month 3. After month 3 hit I was able to start gulping 2 small mouth fulls at a time, before that I had to sip which made it that much more difficult. Good luck!!!
