Question:
Anyone else have stomach pain like this?
I am 13 months post op and for the last couple of months I have been have lots of pain in my stomach and it feels like it goes under my right ribs, or sometime it feels like it going straight through to my back. I know it can't be gall bladder because my surgeon took it out with my RNY. My PCP gave me medicine to help with acid, which helped for about two weeks but now the pain is back, but sometimes not as bad. It even woke me up the other night at 1:00 a.m. and I couldn't go back to sleep until the Tylonal kicked it. Anyone else ever experience this kind of pain? I'm not looking for medical advise, just wanted to know if anyone else had something similar. Thanks! — Donna W. (posted on June 4, 2003)

I too am having the same pain I think. I am 14 months out and I am not
sure if it is stomach pain or back pain it goes into my back and my (L)
side. I am really hurting bad today I take medicine for my stomach and get
some relief. It seems to be worse when I am sitting or driving.

I too had the pain you are describing at about 14 mo's post op. It turned
out to be a fistula and my old stomach was dumping acid into my pouch. I
had the fistula stapled off which relieved and my pouch healed. I tried the
prescription ant-acids as well with no luck. They did not find the fistula
via upper gi, but found it with endoscopy. Good luck to you!!

YES!!!! I'm terrified of being scoped so I don't look into it. It does'nt
happen often but when it does, it is with no warning. It lasts about four
hours and is excrusiating. It starts at the pouch, goes around to my back
and up my lower chest area and hurts so bad that talking and some breathing
is hard. I'm assuming it is an ulcer. One time when this started to happen,
about 10 minutes into the extreme pain I took a Nexium. It went away in a
few minutes, and it NEVER has before.

By the way, my gallbladder was taking out at 10 months post op. Even my
gallbladder attacks were'nt this bad! The pains started afterwards.

I also experienced that type of pain, I had ultrasounds, and egd's, finally
after being on pain meds for 2 months, my surgeon sent me for a
colonoscopy. The pain magically disapeared, evidently I was just full of
stool. Hopefully, your problem will be as simple as mine was.
