Question:
Hi, I would like to know if anyone has tried these protein drinks

I read about the vita4life liquid protein, and the Real-Meals shakes. Can anyone tell if they tried these items, and how is the taste? Im looking for another type of protein drink, i use Atkins prepared shake, and it is wonderful, but just looking for other types. 260/195/160    — sexysag37 (posted on August 10, 2003)

I tried Real Meals both pre and post op after reading Linda Almonte's profile. Her weight loss progress is aamazing, and I really wanted to like the stuff. I tried the vanilla and chocolate. I e-mailed the nutritional content to my nutritionist and she said it was fine to try. It just wasn't for me. Too gritty and almost chewable. I like the Atkins much better and lived on them and Body Fortress Whey protein chocolate powder for weeks. I mixed 2 scoops with 10 oz skim milk in a Tupperweare shaker. It is available on vitaminworld.com. The Atkins is still the best that I've tried.

If you're looking for good protein shakes, I suggest you go to vitalady.com, or wlssuccess.com, and order individual samples of all sorts of protein powder brands & flavors. It's the best way to find a good one (or maybe more than one). Good luck!

I tried the Real Meals and it was alright--not great, but palatable and perfectly acceptable. I do not like the Apple Nectar shake but since I bought a 3 pound tub, I am stuck drinking it with shaved ice. Tastes better when really cold. The chocolate whey stack is good. My doctor recommended the Pro Complex and if I doctor it up with ice, maybe frozen strawberries, or decaf coffee crystals or cocoa and sugar free vanila nut syrup it is actually good.

I have been drinking Real Meals since one week post op and I always wonder what people are doing to get a "gritty" or "almost chewable" shake. I actually chose them because they mix well and are very thin when mixed properly. I think they are just doing it wrong. Anyhow I really like both vanilla and chocolate. I also like a shake called Pure Protein that I get at Trader Joe's but you can get them at the Vitamin Shoppe too. It tastes like Yoohoo. 100 calories, 5 carbs, 21 protein, 1 sugar and very yummy.

Hi: I haven't tried the Real-Meal shakes, (I hate protein shakes) but I love the liquid protein from Vita4life. The protein comes in 4-5 different flavors. I buy the strawberry and put it in my kool aid. I also like the orance cream in OJ. You don't taste it but it does make my kool aid a little sweeter. I'm 16 months out (down -115 lbs.) and still use it almost every day. I think it's a little expensive - about $78 for 36 packets (very convienent to take with you) but well worth it. I think I save that much monthly since I gave up pop so to me it's well worth it. Good Luck!

I have tried just about every protien drink out there, from powders to ready made. The best of the best is called Worldwide ultra pure protien made by Worldwide sports nutrition. It is ready made in 11oz cans and has 35grams of protien and under 5 carbs. The vanilla and Chocolate are great. The other flavors are OK also.

I have tried the Vita4Life liquid protein and cannot stand it. It's only a couple of ounces, but kind of like a syrup. My husband has no problem getting it down, but I can't stand the taste whether it's straight or mixed in something else. If you decide to try it, only get a few or if you can get a sample, go that route first. I have also tried Real Meals and find those tolerable, but I have to mix half a packet in about 8 oz of water. The taste is okay. I, and my husband, both prefer SciFit whey protein. I use a scoop and a half to get about 30 grams of protein in, mixed in water. It mixes very easily, is not gritty and not overly sweet, and does not precipitate out while it sits. Stevia, a "natural" artifical sweetner, is used to sweeten it. I do believe Vitalady carries it and you can get sample sizes of SciFit.

I have tried a lot of different protein drinks, powders, liquids, etc. Post-op, I thought I was doomed to having to gag down these drinks. I finally broke down and got my blender out of the deep-dark recesses of my kitchen cabinets. I have found that I can tolerate almost any protein drink as long as I "tweek" it up in the blender. I use Real Meals, both chocolate and vanilla... I put the vanilla in a blender with sugar free tang and 3 frozen strawberries. I put the chocolate in the blender with either water or milk and about a tablespoon of natural peanut butter. I even have a recipe that uses unflavored protein that comes out really yummy. So I went from dreading and gagging down my protein to actually looking forward to them.

Well, I'm sorry if I offended the Real Meal lovers but I just didn't like them. I stated that others do and that's their decision. I mixed them following directions in a blender and tried it also in a Tupperware shaker. I am a reasonably sure that I am educated enough to do this the"correct" way. I feel I am entitled to my opinion as I stated others are entitled to theirs.

Hey Rita!!! Avid Real-Meals fan here but I do NOT mix them according to directions. My supplements (1/2 package=30gr protein) are mixed in 12 ounces of liquids (4 oz Westsoy Soy Slender Vanilla soy milk and 8 oz of hot water) or (4 oz Diet V-8 Splay and 8 oz cold water). I've found this ratio gives me the best taste and consistancy, otherwise it's just too dang sweet and pretty much NASTY! I tried MANY, MANY other brands before the Real-Meals and these are the only ones I can tolerate on a daily basis! Good luck and happy protein hunting!!! Hugs!

I drink Vanilla Real Meals. I also use a blender to mix mine. I put frozen strawberries (blackberries, raspberries, etc.) in with the mix to create a 'shake-like' consistency and the frozen fruit also makes it not so sweet. The chocolate was way to sweet for me.
