Question:
5 weeks post-op with a lot of pain

I am five weeks post-op and just got out of the hospital, went to the ER after eating and gettting SEVERE pain. The pain was dulled with morphine, but i could still feel it. The pain was really bad, then it would like cramp every 10 seconds or so and be REALLY bad. The did a gallbladder ultrasound, and i do have some gallstones, but like my doctor i think i am too soon post op to be having gallbladder problems. I continued vomitting (dry heaves, basically)and having severe pain until the next morning when i started throwing up a foul brown liquid. After that, the pain basically went away, and is now just soreness. I think i had something stuck and finally vomitted up. Does anyone who has been through this have any input? BTW, i had a barium swallow, and though it did take 5 hourse, the barium did go all the way to the colon. Thanks in advance!    — blank first name B. (posted on September 5, 2001)

What did you eat? It seems like you diagnosed the problem yourself, but how scary. I have pain from time to time, and vomitting does seem to help. I think you just have to be really careful of whatever it was you were eating. Are you ok now?

The same thing happened to me at 6 weeks post-op....I know that morning I ate scrambled eggs, not too much either..I threw up all that day...I continued to throw up 4-5 days straight, i would go to bed with a bucket...I was so sick for the first 7 weeks...Then I would be sick as soon as I got up, till when I went to bed...At 4 months post-op, two weeks ago, i have surgery for a small bowel obstruction..I am not saying that that is what, is wrong with you, the onlt tjing I am saying is, if you don't get better go to your doctor, he can probably help.
