Question:
Has anyone w/VGB been told after gaining weigh that their stomach is more compliant?

I am VERY UPSET. I had VBG in 2/99. I weighed 267 and got down to 190. I'm tall - 5ft 8, so I felt I looked pretty good. Not perfect, perfect would have been 150, but believe me I was very happy. In May of this year, 2001, I noticed that I could eat an entire plate of food without feeling full. I went into my surgeon & they did an upper GI & and endoscopy & my staples are not blown. The doctor's answer is that my stomach is simply "more compliant" than most stomachs (it can hold more and stretches more). Now I'm back to where I started and I need the discpline to diet. I'm so mad I can't see straight!! If I had the discipline I would have never had to have the surgery. Today I am already back up to 240 & considering another surgery, but obviously think I should do RNY to be safe. HAS ANYONE ELSE GONE THROUGH THIS???? Does anyone know a doctor in Dallas that does it laproscopically besides Dr. Alexander? He's not on my insurance and I really don't want a 2nd set of scars. Plus I'm afraid that I may not be consider at leas 100 lbs overweight. This has depressed me severely and would love to talk to anyone who's been through this!!!    — [Anonymous] (posted on December 3, 2001)

I had my VBG in 94. Unfortunately, my weight loss did not last and yes, I can eat a whole plate of food at times. Speaking only for myself, I am having a revision to RNY (something I researched for a year) on December 11th. Although I was told it could not be done lap due to having a previous abdominal surgery. You might want to find out if it's actually possible. Mine will be done open. E-mail me if I can provide any answers. God Bless!
