Question:
Where do you guys find chewable calcium citrate?

I have hunted the stores over. I even ask my druggist if he could order me some and so far the only thing chewable is calcium carbonate. The Nurse says they make chewable calcium citrate but i cannot find it can you send me a brand name? But please check it, someone told me to but the one in the purple box and i did and spent 10.00 and got home and it was calcium carbonate NOT CITRATE. I did finally buy some caltrate pills but they are kinda hard to get down. Thanks    — Jackiis (posted on March 6, 2002)

Hi. I bought some chewable calcium citrate wafers at a local GNC. They are made by Twinlab and called Calcium Citrate Chewable Wafers. They are rather large and I didn't like the taste.

I just picked up some chewable calcium citrate at Wild Oats. It was about $13 for 60 wafers and they are orange flavored. 4 of the wafers have 1000 mg calcium citrate, 7 carbs (6 sugars), and 30 calories. They are made with orange juice so I think that's where the sugar comes from. The brand is Solaray.

The dietician who taught my nutrition classes suggested cutting the calcium supplements (she recommended Citrical) into smaller pieces and taking a piece every now and then throughout the day.

I also found the twinlabs citrate wafers, but they are not very user friendly. They are ok in a pinch, but you have to chew 4 for 100mg (i think). Have you tried Citracal Liquitabs? They are dissolvable and orange flavored. I use them all the time - put one or two in crystal lite tangerine/strawberry and you don't even notice them. They dissolve totally away in a few minutes.....prior to the few minutes they leave little white pieces that aren't offensive. Plus, you get in your water at the same time. Around here (DC) they sell them at Safeway, but I always have to ask the pharmacist because they are non-prescription, but behind the counter. (about $6 for 60 tabs of 500mg each -- not too badly priced)

I know you are looking for the chewable but have you tried the liquid calcium citrate?? Its not bad. I already take 2 chewables and hate the taste. For a pretty good size bottle was only $7.00. at the health food store.

I have trouble swallowing pills and didn't care for the Citrical caplets for that reason--they start to dissolve before I can get them down! :) I started taking CalSure by Sundown Vitamins (got it at Eckerds). They are smaller Calcium Citrate Malate caplets and are smooth and easy to swallow. 2 caplets have 500 mg calcium. I also have the TwinLabs wafers and don't care for the taste but if you sip a little water while you chew they go down a lot easier. I have wanted to try the Citrical Liquitabs but haven't yet. www.drugstore.com has them for $5 a box. Good luck!

Hi Barbe. You misunderstood my answer. It's 7 grams of carbs for *4* wafers. So with my understanding that you need 2000mg of calcium citrate a day, that would be 14 grams of carbs total (taking 8 wafers.) I can see how that might be too many carbs anyway for someone, but my dietician wants me to get 50 grams a day so it was good for me. =)

i just want to add this, the twin lab is 4 wafers for 1000 mg, your body only absorbs 500 mg at a time so i take 2 in the afternoon and 2 at night the carbs are 3g for 4 wafers and 10 calories and they taste like citrus i have not had a problem.
