Question:
Does anyone know if Dr Courcoulas does Transections?

I have a consult scheduled with her on 4/29/02 and just heard from a friend of mine who is also going to Dr. C. My friend said he didn't think she did transections which is what I want (Open RNY Transected). From all the research I've done I've concluded that is the most effective way to reduce the risk of Staple Line Disruptions. I really don't want to have to try to find another surgeon at this late stage but if Dr. C. definitely does not do transections then I will have to find another surgeon. Also Can anyone tell me what pre op tests she requires? I know it's different for everyone depending on their specific circumstances but this will give me some idea what to expect. Thanks alot.    — Elva C. (posted on April 6, 2002)

I'm not sure on the transection, sorry. My surgery is in a few days, and I had to have an upper GI, abdominal ultrasound, dopplers on both legs (due to previous clotting problems), bloodwork, EKG and chest xray, and consult with the nutritionist. My insurance didn't require a psych consult, so she didn't either. I'm sure I'll be learning a whole lot more next week, and if I do find out the answer about the transection, I'll let you know.

i had my evaluation with dr, courcoulas last september, i know she wanted to do an open r.n.y. on me.. but she was so busy i kept getting shoved back for an operation date, i had a hip destroyed in a car accident and i needed to lose weight before the hip could be rebuilt, so i went to dr, joe colella at a.g.h. he fast tracked me, in a month i was done,i've lost 140#'s in 5 months.. "time" was why i changed dr's though, she is good, look on her web-site at u.p.m.c. check the dr's list, i had her web-site but can't find it, but i know she has one, good luck,,, p.s. i heard she herself had this surgery, and she looks great,,
