Question:
I am worried that I won't be able to have children after the surgery.

Hi Michelle, I am now 7 mth spost op and even though I already have
children and can't have anymore due to a hysterecomty I had about 3 years
ago, I have met alot of ppl in here who are post op's and have had probs
with trying to have a baby before surgery, but after having surgery they
have gotten pregnant and had their babies with no problems what so ever,
and the baby was very healthy too, some in here are even pregnant now and
getting ready to have a baby! So please don't get discouraged, I heard it
is no problem, but I do suggest you wait at least a year after having
surgery to get pregnant well that is what most docs say to do! Good Luck to

It may turn out you get pregnant way easier than you thought and way too
early in post-op life. Just a forewarning - birth control pills are
worthless after RNY, so do not depend on them alone. You do not absorb
enough of the medication. Get in touch with your GYN and figure out what
is the best option for you. It really is best for you and the baby to wait
that magical 18 months before getting pregnant. I know women who have
accidently (usually) gotten pregnant from 2 months out but it is a huge
risk. Why not take advantage of what the surgery can do for you and after
you are stabilized and eating well go for the baby.

Getting preganet will probley be easer after you lose weight. My best
friend lost 150pounds, and was year and half post op when her Doctor gave
her the o.k. to start trying to have a baby,and it only took two months to
get preganet, and is due in Jan. 04..Good Luck...

You will probably be more fertile so take precautions until at least a year
after surgery. Obese people usually have menstral irregularities, so
losing excess weight seems to kick the system back in shape. People have
had children after gastric bypass (I'm praying it works for me next year).

Be careful what you wish for (just kidding)....I know a woman who had
quadruplets after WLS (no fertility drugs used) :)

Met A woman in doc's office other day that got pregnant 4 mths after
surgery...They had told her she would never have any more children (she has
15 yr old & 12 yr old).She started out in size 18 maternity clothes
& now is 10 wks from delivery & wears a size 10....ALL IS
WELL.....SHE HAS JUST GAINED HER FIRST 4 LBS OF HER PREGNANCY.
