Question:
What are drain tubes for?

I know this sounds dumb but I had WLS three years ago and never had a drain tube in my stomach. What exactly is it for, and why do some have it some don't? Just curious. Thanks    — Barbara H. (posted on September 8, 2002)

Hey there Barb! :) It is my understanding that the drain tube is there to drain out blood and such that would be in your pouch during the healing process. You know if you have a cut that sometimes it waters... during the healing process. Well imagine that the pouch has that healing fluid and blood too and it just stays in there. Seems you would get an infection from it. Anyway, I don't know if I'm right but I think this is the reason.
