Question:
I'm really worried. I have a pain just to the left and at the top of incision.

I am 2 weeks out open rny. It started yesterday and is still there this morning. It's sort of an ache, although it occasionally burns. I have not eaten anything innapropriate or done anything strenuous. I checked the library but there wasn't anything that addressed the specific location where my pain is. It feels better when I press on it. Please respond if you have any ideas. I'm worried.    — Lesa H. (posted on October 17, 2002)

Don't worry unless it gets worse. I am just over three weeks post open rny and have had the same feeling in the exact location. The only advice I can give you is take it easy, don't over do it, and I found a pillow to be my best friend. Today I feel a thousand times better then just two days ago. Remember you just had major surgery and your body is freaking out. If you still can't stand the pain try some liquid tylenol or the chewables. I'm sorry I couldn't have given you better advice but I hope it helped.

I am 4 months post-op and I had this pain about when you did. I asked my surgeon at my two-week check-up and he said that they really move things around in there and push and pull and it's probably the stomach starting to heal and the muscles aching. If you are concerned, check with your doc, but as long as it's not severe pain and you don't have a fever, it's probably okay. Just be careful with your activity level and what you eat/drink. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

I had the exact same pain exactly 2 weeks out. Sorta freaked me out because I was starting to feel lots better then I had this onset. Anyhow, I went to my Doctors office and it turns out that since I had my gall bladder along with the LAP RNY they did most of the work through the left side. He explained the muscles inside were all stitched up and contracting against the stitches. They told me it would go away after a few days and then I would just be very sore, they were right. I am almost 5 weeks out and pain all gone. Thank God! Good luck to you.

I also had this pain. My surgeon told me it was the nerve endings healing and that it would go away in time and it did. Its actually a sign that you are healing. Even though it was painful it too diappeared. charlotte jones
