Question:
1 week post-op, when can I sleep on my stomach again?

I'm a side and stomach sleeper, I want to know when I might be able to sleep on my side or stomach again? I had lapaoscopic RNY on 6/25. I just can't stand sleeping on my back. Any experiences, suggestions? — David F. (posted on July 2, 2003)

I had lap RNY too, and began sleeping on my stomach at about 8 days out--right after I had my staples and drain removed. I woke up really sore the first couple of nights after sleeping on my belly, but after that was much better. I'm with you--I hated sleeping on my back!

I had an open rny 12/23/02, I had a terrible time sleeping in general. I slept in a Lane recliner for three weeks.

i had lap rny, and asked the surgeon when i could start sleeping on my stomach - he said i couldn't do any damage and so whenever if felt ok was fine. i don't remember exactly, but it was no more than 6 days or so post op that i was able to do so.

I was sleeping on my side in the hospital, with pillows all around me. I slept partly on my tummy the 4th day home, again with pillows all around me. I would think that what ever feels best for you. I could not wait to sleep on my stomach as I have really bad dreams when I am on my bad, like I am too exposed or something.
Good Luck! ~~Wendy D 10 weeks, -56 lbs

I had Lap RNY on 4/21/03 and after about a week and a half I was able to comfortably sleep on my stomach and side. Once the pain subsides and all you have to deal with is the soreness you will be fine on your tummy. Best of luck! -10 weeks down 61 lbs!

I slept on my side in the hospital. The Doc put a pillow under my abdomen which relieved all the pressure from the surgical site and I slept well like that.

I am also one week post op and a stomach and side sleeper. The first night I came home I slept on my back on the couch as we have a waterbed. The second night I couldn't take it anymore so we fixed the waterbed up. I sleep on my side with two body pillows against my stomach. This way I can kind of roll onto my stomach but not totally and I have support so I don't hurt really bad in the morning. Good Luck. Nancy

I too am a side/stomach sleeper. I hated lying on my back. I had open RNY on May 28th. It was at about 3 wks post op that I could sleep on my side and just recently (apx 5wks) that I could sleep on my stomach again. Now, I had a 14 inch scar on my belly. So, it may come sooner for you since you had the lap. Just try it and if it isn't comfortable roll back over..best wishes on the losing side.
