Minor nerve damage from being strapped to the OR table is very common, and generally goes away gradually over a month or so. I myself had a num bum:( I encourage her to call her surgeon, but most likely its just like my trouble...

Part of your question did not show. Do they think she had a stroke? There are 2 different kinds of strokes. One is when arteries are blocked and the other is when the artery ruptures and bleeds into brain tissue. It is common to have numbness in an arm and/or leg after stroke. It wouldn't necessarily be from the surgery. Does your friend have high blood pressure, is she very active? She might have a clot that moved from her leg to her brain. Was this a problem immediately after surgery? I had slimmer's neurolgia about 18 months post op. My lower legs got numb and I had foot drop. MD said it was from losing fat pads that protect the nerves around joints--ie around the knee. It developed after I started crossing my legs--couldn't do that at 354 pounds. It has gone away with time and I stopped crossing my legs. MD said the fat pads would come back when my weight stabilized and he was right! Hope this helps.

my hand went numb after surgery, woke up and couldnt even feel it, but i'd get terrible shooting pains in it, it came to the point where i had to wrap a cold cloth around my hand just to grab it when the shooting pains it. it didnt start getting better until about 4 months out though, because nerves heal slowly my doc told me they heal about an inch a month
