Question:
I am looking for a skilled surgeon in California that does the Lap RNY

Does anyone have a recomendation for an experienced surgeon for the lap procedure? I was planning on going to Milton Owens in Orange, untill I found out that he has only performed 20 laps.    — Chenoah H. (posted on March 22, 2001)

I went to Alavardo in San Diego with Drs Clark and Wittgrove (they just added a new associate). They developed the Lap procedure. Last year alone they did 400 total surgeries (both open and Lap). Their web site has alot of good information (gastricbypass.com). If you have any specific questions about them, email me directly.

I think you should check out your information. I am sure that Dr. Owens has done more than 20 lap rny surgeries.

I think you should check out your information. I am sure that Dr. Owens has done more than 20 lap rny surgeries. However, what concerned me with Dr. Owens is that he does the laproscopic surgery with 2D rather than 3D cameras. When I went to a seminar in San Diego Dr. Wittgrove discussed the dangers in using 2D cameras. Talked me out of going to Dr. Owens.

Alvarado Clinic in San Diego has done extensive work in Lap RNY's. Definitely go to their web-site and check them out. I thought I was going to go to them at first (through military referral) so I checked them out. They sound great.

My surgeon is Dr. Edward Felix of Fresno, California. I have to say that he is one of the best in the valley. My surgery was an hour and 40 min and I was up and walking 4 hours later. I have yet to have any problems. His staff is very helpful. He has a very structured after care program, he makes commit to 2 years after care with him. He is very serious about his job. If you have any questions e-mail me at [email protected].

I'm pretty sure I'm going with Pacific Bariatric in San Diego with Dr. Zorne doing the Lap RNY. So far, the group seems wonderful.

Philippe Quilici, M.D. performs the Lap RNY out of Cedars-Sinai in West Los Angeles. He has been my surgeon for non-WLS in the past. I trust he'll be my surgeon for WLS also. His office is in Burbank. He has even written a book, instructing other surgeons on performing this procedure. His info is available on this site at Find A Doc. Good luck!
