You are lucky I have been waiting ever so patiently since last April (2001), and I just got in to see the Dr. yesterday 12 Feb 02. My insurance dictates which Dr. i see. So if you can find another Dr. in the area go for it. If not April is not that long.

Yeah, I agree that April isn't a long time to wait. I got my referral last Feb/Mar and had to wait until August to see my surgeon and then it was November before I had my surgery. It seemed like it was never going to happen. Spend your time doing research. You can never research enough. I am still learning things everyday about WLS. Information is power.

Took me 6 full months to get through approval, and preop testing, and such to get a date for surgery.

I have been waiting ONE YEAR to even get a consult date to see my surgeon (finally next week). A few months isn't a long time to wait.

April is not a long way off. I had to get on a waiting list to wait. I have been on it since October, and my first Consultation is next Monday. I think the biggest problem is so many Obese people are coming forward and taking charge of Our lives, by getting something done about this growing medical condition. Also I think it just might be a good sign if your doctor is pretty busy that it takes a while to see him..Think about it that way!!!

Use this time to prepare for the appointment. Make sure that you can show you have done alot of research prior to making this decision. document every diet that you have ever been on. If you have all of these things ready when you go for your first appointment you will get a surgery date faster. If not you may be told to go back and do the research before making the decision. It will also help with a quick insurance approval.
