Question:
3 Weeks Out- Pain after just a few bites, why?

Im 3 weeks post-op and every time I eat, even 2-4 tiny bites, I have to stop because I get a very sharp pain about 4 inches right of my belly button. Is this where my pouch is located? Could I have filled up that fast? Or is it simply gas, and if so how do I remedy it? Im afraid I may be losing weight too quickly because I cant eat. As a matter of fact, the only thing that doesnt hurt is broth.    — donna O. (posted on May 8, 2003)

The pouch is right under your sternum . youre only 3 weeks ? what are you trying to eat that hurts ? I was on sift foods like scrambled eggs and 3 or 4 bites and I was full too .

Im eating soft foods, mashed potatoes, pudding, overcooked flaky fish (flounder), all is chewed very well, to the consistency of soup. But my pain is near my belly button, not the full feeling under my sternum, where my sutures are. The pain is sharp and usually lasts for 10 minutes after I've had a few bites. Its a little unerving...not quite sure if its gas, or something else.

I am 2 and 1/2 weeks out. Yesterday I tried mashed potatoes, took 2 bites and felt a pain near my sternum. I think the bites were too big. Today I tried chilli, and it went down fine. I ate it with a little spoon, maybe that's why. As always, I would ask my doctor if I had a real concern.
