Question:
I'm missing some vitamins and minerals, any suggestions?

HI everyone. I'm hoping you guys can help me. I've been tracking my nutrition on Fitday and according to it I'm not meeting my nutritional needs. I'm regularly short on Vitamin K, Selenium, Phosphorus and sometimes Magnesium. I've changed my calcium citrate to calcium citrate w/ magnesium and D. I need to try and find a good chewable multi that has the other 3 in it. Does any one have any suggestions? Thanks.    — Morna B. (posted on November 6, 2003)

ANy "complete" multi vit will have those items in it. 2 of them will give you RDA plus a lil to malabsorb. They don't have to be expensive. However, you'd still need iron + C, dry form A, D and E, a lil zinc and a separate B12 to complete your ensemble.

This is what I do. In the morning, I take Calcimate Plus 800 from GNC. It has Vitamin D, Calcium Citrate, Magnesium and Potassium in it, Vitamin K with Calcium (remember, you can't add extra Vitamin K to Fitday for some strange reason and so it will always show you as being low even when taking the vitamins). At lunch time, I take Futurebiotics Advanced Woman's Formula Multi-Vitamin (Hair, Skin & Nails). After dinner, I take extra Selenium, Biotin, Zinc, and Iron (my levels for iron were low). I take B-12 sublinguals every other day. Anyway, so far, this shows me getting all my nutrients and my blood levels have been excellent. Anyway, good luck!

Thanks, I didn't post everything that I take daily on my question. I take over 1000 mg of Calcium Citrate, two children's chewables (hence the lack of some of my nutrients), 1 sublingual biotin, 1 sublingual b-12, 1 serving of b-complex liquid, 1 chewable vitamin c (I take it with my acti-gall), 1 chewable iron w/ vitamin C (I take it with my other acti-gall). Where can I find a complete multi? I went to Vitamin Shoppe last night and all the liquids and chewables they had didn't have much of the nutrients that I'm missing :( Thanks again.

Morna, my doctor suggested BariBlend vitamins. They have been designed especially for us. Here is the web site http://www.bariblend.com It cost $30.00 for 30 days

go to Barbara Thompson's website: www.wlscenter.com. Then click on the area regarding vitamins. They are made by Isotonix and are powered formula that you mix with water and it actually tastes good!! I am 18 mo. post op and have been using them for months and love it! It's especially made for WLS patients. The absorbency is wonderful. I use the multi-vitamin, Calcium, and a metabolism one that really helps when you hit plateaus a few months down the line. Good luck!
