Question:
I have been having extreme back pain for this past 4 days, I am 3 weeks post-op
My back pain is so bad that I have to use pain medicene to help, but even this does not totally relieve it. Went to the walk in clinic, because I thought it might be my kidneys. But all they found was that I was severally Dehydrated. This pain is a constant and feels like presure and burning. If anyone has any suggestions PLEASE send them my way. — Shelly T. Shelley: I third that kidney stone/infection motion! I had a kidney stone
at 4 1/2 weeks post-op and was hospitalized twice for it in one week. I
had to have it removed surgically. I also had hydronephrosis (which was
blocking of the ureter due to swelling, so the kidney couldn't drain at
all) several weeks post-op from an abdominal hysterectomy. Same symptoms
and exactly the same pain. It won't be getting better if it's one of
these, and you'll be in a lot of pain, which only gets worse. See someone
for this ASAP! Good luck, hope you're feeling better soon. Jaye Carl, RN,

Shelley,I had back pain in the middle section that was the a burning pain
that started the first week post op and lasted for 4 weeks it was not a
kidney stone,I'm still not sure if it was a muscle strain from positioning
during surgery or if it was refered pain from the the incision. At times the
back pain was worse than the pain from surgery so I continued to take the
prescribed pain medication.I would check with the Dr to rule out any other
problem though.Good luck this will pass too .I'm now almost 6 weeks post op
and feeling almost normal again.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I had the same pain that you are
describing. I went to the surgeon and found that i was severly
constapated. I had no idea since I was still going alittle evrey
few days. Try taking some m or mag and see if it helps. Good Luck

I'm two days post-op and have been experiencing really bad back pain. I
found out (by reading the bottle, DUH!) that I needed to increase my liquid
pain medication. I've increased my walking to limber up the torso, and
applied ice for 30 minutes to the sore areas. Maybe it's a combination or
just the pain meds, but I'm not miserable like I was yesterday and today.
Also, I'm increasing my water intake to flush, as suggested.
