Question:
Has anyone over 400 .lbs lost down to a reasonable weight?

I started out weighing 532 lbs pre-op and have lost 80 lbs in about 3 months. I hope to hit the 100 lb mark by my next office with my surgeon in late Feburary. I know I will never be 120 lbs. However, I would like to hit the high 100's in the next few years. Has anyone weighed this much and reached the high 100's, low 200's? I had a distal RNY, so hopefully, this will help me get there. I would love to hear anyone's experience or you can e-mail me privately. Thanks, Jan    — Jan M. (posted on January 6, 2001)

Check our Sue Barr's profile. Also, there is an e-group designed especially for people who have been in excess of 400 pounds when they started this journey. I was 494 day of surgery (down from a peak of 503), and am now 367, 7 months post op. Sue was my inspiration early on. Good Luck to you!

My daughter had her proximal lap RNY 01/04/00. She weighed 406 lbs. at the time of surgery, and has lost 185 lbs. in one year. She experienced her most rapid weight loss in the first 6 months, but has consistently lost 10-15 lbs/mo. since then...has gone from a snug size 5X to a size 20. She is 5'6" and her surgeon gave her a "reasonable" weight goal of 160 lbs....I have no doubts that she will achieve that or more. Best wishes!!

I started out at 450lbs. My doctor made me diet before surgery and I weighed in at 383 the day of the operation. That was 5 yrs ago this month. I have been in the at 183 + or - a couple of pounds for the last 3 yrs. I have lately been struggling with eating right due to a lot of stress in my life. As a result I actually gained about 10 lbs which scared the heck out of me. A return to a propper diet quickly brought my weight back to where it should be though. The thing to remember is that the surgery is only a tool, and as with any tool when used properly it works well.

I weighed 450 pounds when I had surgery. I am 16 months post op and have lost over 225 pounds. I was in a 5 or 6 x in clothes. I'm now in extra larges shirts and 18/20 pants.
