Question:
Has anyone had wls with blue cross/blue sheild of MN?

I was wondering if anyone has had wls with blue cross/blue sheild of MN. My husband works for Schwan's. We sent my letter last week actually 10 days ago and I am getting anxious. Can anyone help me with the waiting? Thanks, Colleen Moreaux    — Colleen M. (posted on January 17, 2001)

Colleen, There are so many variations of coverage through BC/BS - it's unbelievable. I'm not at all familiar with your particular plan but I have BlueChoice HMO (BC/BS of Georgia). I am having difficulty in getting approval but I wanted to wish you the best of luck! Don't get discouraged and don't give up...if there's one thing I've learned from this site it's that miracles do happen and we musn't give up the fight. It's a shame that there is a fight at all but maybe with everyone's participation we can overcome that. Good luck!

I have BC/BS of MN that covers, my husband also has BC/BS an his did NOT cover. I called them every other day to see if I was approved and they told me that they had 10 working days to review and deny or approve- I know the waiting game is terrible!I got the answer in 9 days. Call and ask- if they don't have an answer, ask and see when you can expect one. Good Luck!! I hope if you call they give you the b-i-g YES on the phone then you can celebrate :-).

As previously stated, there are many variations of BC/BS. I have BC/BS of Minnesota through Holiday Stationstores. I got approval in about 2-3 weeks--took a little longer as they requested additional information. However, in my handbook it states that this surgery is covered. Check out your book and see if there is any exclusion. Good luck!

Hey Colleen.....i too am in the same boat as you..we have spoke before. I am going to start calling today to make sure they have the paperwork. I live in Florida so the claims go thru BCBS of florida...I have BCBS of MN because of my husbands work thru Schwans. It is a tough waiting game but our policy covers it..so we will have to be patient..yeah right..its hard...

I hope this helps you! I began the process the end of Feb. 04 and got approval May 5, 2004. They didn't require a six month physician supervised diet history like most others. I did however send in a print out of what I could recall for them. I called once a week, and then more often to keep the ball rollin'. Surgery is scheduled for August 16, 2004!!! If I can give any advice to you, it is stay on top of them and get names and direct numbers of the reps at BC/BS of MN!!!! Good luck!!!
