Question:
Do you have pain where your muscles were cut for the lap procedure?

I had lap rny surgery on 6/11...everything has been great... only this one problem so far. From my left lower incision to my belly button I have a terrible burning pain. Not a deep tissue or wound pain. It feels like I was burned with an iron or stuck with a hot knife depending on how I move It isnt constant... it only happens when I turn on my side in bed or if I bend over or move just the wrong way. It hurts when I get dressed and the front of my pants rub the area. It isnt a small pain... it can bring tears to my eyes. My doctor says that is the area where they went through my muscle and the nerve endings are coming together and healing and that creates pain. He says it is normal in some people. So basically it isnt life threatening I understand... but have any of you experienced this pain and did you do anything or take anything that lessened it? How long did the pain last? I cant even bend over to take clothes out of the dryer or pick something off the floor. I am almost 6 weeks post op.    — SusanMaria (posted on July 22, 2001)

Hi Susan, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who has that type of pain. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago, and lap also. Ihave very sharp pain in three spots. My right side just above the insision almost on top of my bottom rib. Almost the same spot on the left side, and a pain in my back on the lower left side. I can't believe how much it hurts. Enough to make me double over and lose my breathe. I see the doctor tomarrow. I'll see what he has to say also. If it is because we are healing, hopefully it wont last for long.

Hi, this sounds like the same pain I had after my children were born. I had c-sections and the pain lasted on and off for about 6 weeks. I know you had a lap, but you still had surgery and I'm sure it will ease with time. I am not looking forward to that pain when I have my surgery on 8-24-01, but I also know it is part of the healing process. If you can and if your Dr. says it's okay, take some liquid tylnol, it may help. Good luck, I hope it is easing for you.

Hi there, I have the same symptoms from my surgery I had my gallbladder removed about 2 weeks ago and for about 5 days now I have had this numbing pain on the left side of my belly button and it burns kinda feels like a pinched nerve and then I do get stabbing pains once and a while as well. I am going to call my doctor tomorrow to see what this is. Did your pain feel like a pinched nerve?
