Question:
What are these pains????

Since yesterday, I am having severe pain in my lower right side of my back and it seems to move to around to my side. I thought this was gas pockets moving around but so far nothing has been relieved. I tired walking alot last night and it helped some of the gas come out but still no relief. Also, I have noticed that I have a pain that runs all around (front and back) at the lower part of my ribs when I take deep breaths. What are this pains??? And what can I do to get rid of them? Does the back and side pain sound like gas? It seems to help if I put deep pressure with my fist in the area where the stabbing pain hits. This pain is not constant, happens about every 3-5 minutes. Also, I got some relief by laying on my right side on a hard couch. Sorry this is so long, I just wnated to make sure you have all of the information. Thank you for ANY advice. Candi p.s. I am now 17 days post-op from open RNY.    — Candi B. (posted on June 24, 2002)

Hello Candi! I am 3 months post-op and for the past two monts I also have sharp stabbing back pains that come and go. It sounds like the same pains because when I place my fist and pressure against the pained area it seems to die off some. When I went to the doctor and told him he said the pain is due to a change in your center of gravity due to your weight loss. I know it sounds crazy but that is what I was told. When the pain gets bad I lay on a heating pad and it seems to go away. Hope this helps!

I had some of the same pains but mostly in my back. My back hurt so bad that I would cry. I was told by alot of the people on this site that it has to do with when you are in surgery and you are under anesthesia that the surgeon have to position you in all different kinds of ways to reach or see what they need to do, in other words they were playing twister with your body. I took Advil or Aleve and I hurt real bad that showers and bathes did not do the trick but I had found that lying on my side with a bunch of pillow around me relieved some of the pressure..Hope you feel better

I am 11 months post op. I developed severe stabbing pain in my back muscles a few months after surgery. They started to get worse and more often. My surgeon had me increase the calcium I was taking. I now take Viactive which is very easily absorbed and it contains vit D and K. After a few days my pains went away. I ran out last month and didn't take them for 2 weeks and the pain started to come back so now I don't miss taking them at all!.

Do You have your Gallbladder? If you pain is on the right side and run to the right side of your back it could be it. That is where it is and if you eat any foods with fat like mayo(that is the worst my doctor said) cheese, really anything that has alot of fat it will give you an attack.
