Question:
Can anyone point me in the direction of a dr. that may be in my plan?

My insurance is changing on January 1, 2003. I was approved on November 14, 2002 with the specific directions that my surgery has to be done in network before January 1. I asked the insurance co. and my employer for doctors that are approved to do this surgery but they insist that they know of none. What do I do now?    — Diana D. (posted on November 17, 2002)

Diana I'm sure your insurance has a list of providers. I'd specifically ask for that, not just a specific recommendation. I don't think they can deny you access to a list of their providers. In the meantime I'd call around like was just suggested. Good luck, I hope you can find a way to make it happen!

I looked under insurers in GA and found Southcare listed - I'm not sure if this is exactly the insurer you have, but you can check this link http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/insurers2.phtml?State=GA&Page=9 and see if any of the people listed (they list their email addys) can tell you who they used as their doctor. Best of luck to you!

Get the list of providers offered by your insurance and then call each and every surgeon on the list in your area and ask if they do bariatric surgery.

I don't believe you mentioned the insurance plan that you had. I wasn't particularly interested in the surgeons my insurance provider had, so I went out of network~of course you will have to pay more, but that is the price you pay for excellence. Decide the "type" of surgery you want, then go from there.
