Question:
My doctor set up my surgery date for July 30th but....................

I haven't been approved by insurance company yet, nor have I started my pre-op testing (EKG, blood work, etc.). How can they set up a surgery date without insurance approval. I am so excited to have a date but I just keep thinking my ins. co. is going to deny me. Any help will be appreciated.    — TP (posted on June 18, 2002)

My doctor did the same thing. The office handled everything and the insurance company approved it about two weeks before the date. Your doctors office has experience dealing with the insurance companies and probably is confident there will be no problems.

Hi. This is pretty standard procedure from what I understand. And most insurance companies cannot take longer than 30 days to respond with approval or denial I believe as well. You still have 5 weeks to get all of your testing. And blood work right before surgery is supposed to be done within 7 days of surgery, atleast it was for me anway. SO don't worry! ANd if you are by chance denied, they will give you another surgery date! But congrats on getting a soon surgery date!! Goodluck on your journey! I just had LAP RNY 2 1/2 weeks ago and am down 28 LBS and am very happy! :)
