Question:
Does anyone know if it is possible to snore during surgery with a general anesthetic?

i know this sounds silly, but i really don't want anyone standing there listening to me snore, and if you don't, what stops you from doing so? Thanks........    — paula T. (posted on April 19, 2002)

I wouldn't think so with that tube down your throat.... Wouldn't quote me on it though, I'm not a med Dr :) Though it makes you wonder :) Good luck on your journey! :)

I was more embarrassed to be lying there naked (after they put me out) then I was about snoring, passing gas, etc. Find out when you have your meeting with your anesthesiologist. Good luck and God Bless!

If snoring is your biggest fear, you are one strong person. I think you will do well with your surgery. You will never know if you snored because the docs and nurses won't even notice nor will they care.

I've thought about this, too. But technically, you will be under anesthesia, so you are in a sord-of coma, you are not actually sleeping. So if you're not sleeping, you most likely won't snore. :)

no. you will not snore during the time the tube is down your windpipe. after they take it out you might, however, snoring is an indication of blockage and the recovery room nurses will probably reposition you for good air exchange. i say, just worry about that so you dont worry about all the other things like i did! it is tough to know too much. patsy nelson RN

Paula - I can really relate to your fear. I was also fearful of snoring; it's very embarrasing. I don't know if I did snore in the O.R.; maybe I did. But lots of people snore & I'm sure it's nothing new to the drs./nurses. In addition, like the other poster, I was also embarrased about having to be naked on the table. Of course you are fearful about the surgery itself, but there are also these other little details that are embarrasing. Now I do know that after surgery I snored in my room. I actually woke myself up only to find my surgeon standing at the foot of my bed. I could have died!
